Quick Poll--What's on Your Computer Desk?

Front and center: Sony 20" E500 Trinitron.

Below the fingertips: Apple original ADB extended keyboard, best kbd ever made.

Behind & to sides of monitor: pair of old hand-me-down Yamaha speakers.

Left of monitor: PowerBook (“WallStreet”), to which monitor and keyboard are hooked, with its own built-in TFT as 2nd screen.

Left of PowerBook: Ancient PowerMac 7100, serving as aux computer.

On top of old 7100: KVM switch for when I need to control the 7100 directly. (usually I just Timbuktu into it though), and piece-of-shit Avaya PBX-type office phone.

Right of monitor: 9 inch cast iron frying pan (there was a yard sale), empty Targus bag for the PowerBook when I go home tonight.

Above frying pan and Targus bag: picture of girlfriend, bottle of Scorned Woman, bottle of Tabasco Chipotlé, bottle of Blair’s MegaDeath, tin of Ginger Altoids, spool of blank CD-R’s and snap cases, emergency umbrella.

To the left: a picture of my son. a brass cake pedestal a “whining timer” a box of bandaids a bottle of isopropyl alcohol a calander a stylus pad a track ball & a mouse & pad ( I trade off), 2 small pieces of stained glass left speaker.
To the right a clock/lamp 6 CDs Grateful Dead, Sting, Simon & Garfunkel, The Mamas & The Papas, Marc Cohn, & Queen. A lagre baggie of copper tape 3 cups of pens, pencils exacto knives, letter openers, A bulletin board with a clown nose tacked to it, a letter holder with bills in it. Cruise documents, a dictionary, & last but not least, a mini stereo to play the CD’s Oh I almost forgot the 5 gallon plant.

Left: Picture of my girlfriend and I dancing.
Right: Tangles of cords.

That is all.

No, really, that is all.

Oh, I just set a bottle of water down. Does that count?

(I’m a college student, and don’t have the space for much else.)

A tremendous amount of clutter topped with a Shaker music box that plays “'Tis a Gift to Be Simple”

A Mike Piazza bobblehead, a Bugs Bunny, a picture of my dad with his dog, an invitation to a 1st birthday party, 6 pairs of earrings, a pack of cigarettes and three lighters, an ashtray, a bottle of nailpolish, an Absorbastone coaster, a glass of scotch and water, and a heavy, hollow glass paperweight that belonged to my partner’s dad. The Kleenex I just used when I got tearful over my dad and his dog.

At Home: About 30 various CDs, generic brand PostIt Notes, pen, pencil, unbent paperclip, pad of scrap paper, glass of water, antihistamines, inhalers, plush Pikachu, headphones, chewing gum, computer game reciepts, packet of white chocolate Toffee Pops (yum!), ‘Clik’ zip-disk, a USB cable, panadol.

At Uni: Floppy disks, calculator, headphones, scrap paper, research notes, newspaper, chemical sample, textbooks, pencil-case, diary, pens.

This is a lot of fun to read! Currently, my desk is an unholy mess. It’s scheduled to be cleaned tomorrow. When that happens, all that will be on it are:

A 19-inch monitor
A kickass Danish modern lamp that is the envy of all my friends
Two computer speakers
Unfortunately, I currently have, in addition to that:

Four empty glasses: one water glass, one wine glass, one port glass, and one heavy glass mug that had been stored in the freezer for frosty coldness
One wrist warmer
One bandana
One pair of glasses
One small sheet of packaged Claritin pills
Fifteen Chicago Symphony tickets, which just came in the mail
Two cell phones, one functional
Bill for said functional cell phone, which just came in the mail
Nail clippers
Keys
Wallet
Six CDs: One recording of Mahler’s 6th Symphony, two copies of a mix CD I burned for friends, and three CDs that were burned for me
and one Peapod coupon

I’m a piglet.

A bunch of junk:

-stuffed blue boa constrictor
-cap with my company’s logo
-box of crayons
-vase
-sue bee honey bear container of honey
-lotion
-yoga deck
-candle from our client holiday party last year
-water glass, coffee mug and the rest of my lean cuisine
-chinese stress balls (you know - the things that have the chimes in them that you roll around in one hand, trying not to let them touch)
-binders full of proposals
-information on web content
-an AP Stylebook
-books on PhotoShop
-a clock radio
-a St. Louis Business Journal “Book of Lists.”
-a bunch of research

Here we go . . .

To the left of the monitor. . .

Printer, DVD’s Satellite speaker, letters, laptop, wallet, some packaging for something.

On the monitor: a clock.

To the right: CD’s (software) harmonica case, satellite speaker, coffee cup, floppies, spare mouse mat, 5 books (3 fiction 2 reference) x-box.

I’m ignoring below the desk, there’s a whole load of junk there!
