Quickbooks 2004 to 2007

Grrrrrrr. I use QB, on a two-computer network. We’re not big, our backup file is only 150 MB, but apparently, we have too much information for my pretty little two-year-old computer to handle. I’m trying to update to the new program, so I backup the old one, checking “Verify Data Integrity”, because I want a perfect copy to update with. My sweet, kind, idiotic computer, running XP,or QB2004, just can’t handle it. It freezes at 8, or 10, or 13, or 18, percent, leaving me spending all the ding-dang day reinstalling, CTRL-ALT-DELing and restarting, trying to make it work. I want to pit it, but I want it to work. Does anyone else use QB? Has anyone else had this problem? Do the Tech gods still love me, even though They have smitten me with this problem? I’ve checked the official QB forums, and all I can find are other people complaining, with no answers. Will shaking my tower vigorously help at all? Can I run over and then microwave the update disk?

I’ll be checking this later, even though I’m off work soon. I’m hoping for answers, but don’t really expect them :frowning:

Is it hanging during installation or while it’s converting the data file?
When we updated from 02 to 04 (or to whatever version we’re running right now, dunno off hand) it appeared to hang while converting the data file. I kept resetting every time it stopped. Finally I just gave up, and left it alone. Some of the places where it ‘hung’ it made it past after sitting at the same percentage for 10 or 15 mins. So if that’s what it’s doing you might just want to try getting it started and then leaving it along for a few hours.
