Quickpost and edit - box height. Can it be increased?

I think the quick post and the edit post boxes are way too ‘thin’. I find that almost always when I have to edit a post quickly I either have to scroll my post or rapid-keypress the little double-down-arrow thingy in the top right corner to expand the height of the edit window.

Can it be made larger by default? I can’t imagine it being an overhead (it’s just a different number for ‘height’) I think it needs to be at least three times larger.

It’s analogous to having the bottom of an MS Word window nearly at the top of the screen and having a tiny slit in which to scroll and edit your document.

if you use firefox, you can modify this for yourself via the “stylish” addon and two lines of css

There’s a couple of double-arrows at the top right of the box in both the preview and the advanced page. You can increase or decrease the size of your text box.

Here’s a screen shot of it:

I believe that this is an overriding feature, and, from what I remember when I used to delve into vBulletin code to customise, specifying an initial height is no longer possible.

:smack: Damn! “…by default.” I misread the whole OP. Very sorry, Lob.

There’s a javascript function out there somewhere to make specific text-areas auto-extend as you type. I could see about adding that to my GM script.

Thanks for that, Lib. It is amazing how those two arrowheads have been staring at me for years, and I never thought to see what they did. :smack:

On that note, I’ve just investigated the two As next to them. As far I can see, they just change the colour of the box. I must be missing its true significance?

Well, I’m glad it helped someone!

The two As toggle the “editor mode”. Instead of being able to type in a readable Verdana font on a gray background that does not assault the eyes, you can switch to typing in hard to read Trebuchet (SDMB’s default font) on a bright bright bright white background. Plus, it has some padding.

They’re WYSIWYG for coding – standard coding, anyway (bold, italics, etc.). You still need to do “preview post” to make sure your spoiler boxes, etc., work properly.

No problem Lib.

But it’s the biggest nuicance when you’re editing a post. Your post could be quite large, and the bit you want to edit is at some arbitrary point. Rather than the rapidity with which you could home in on it using your brain if the whole thread were visible, you have to waste time either scrolling, or clicking the tiny arrows repeatedly…

And you get even less space to edit than you do to compose the thread.

This time wasted is time you don’t have left to edit your post in the 5 minute window.
