QuickTime Movies and Final Cut Pro III- Mac Alert !

The set-up:

Final Cut Pro III
Macintosh Powerbook G-4, 667.
External 120 Gig HD.

Mac OS-X Jaguar

I am attempting to import a Quicktime movie clip into a FCP III project. I am able to import it and watch it both in the Viewer and Canvas. There is audio as well as video in the clip.

I can see the video but cannot hear the audio. I’ve read my manuals- which were written JUST as OS-X was being released, so they refer to OS-9 menus, names and show OS-9 windows.

Anyone know where I should go within FCP III to adjust audio settings so I can hear and use the audio tracks? It’s not a volume settings issue, for when I bring the clip into the Canvas, no audio tracks appear in my Timeline. Just the video track.

Ideas? I’ve got not only the FCP Manuals, but FCP by Lisa Brenneis- usually a great first-go-to resource. I’m flummoxed. Help ???

No idea if this’ll work, but this is a common problem on Avid systems. On Avids, you have a choice of working with audio at 44K (standard) or 48K (higher quality). If the project is in one, audio at the other resolution won’t play. It’s just silent, even the sound meters stay flat.

Change the audio project to the other setting at the audio will play fine.

I have no idea if FCP has the option to switch between the two or not, or if you can import the quicktime at a different audio setting. But it’s my best guess. Hope it helps…
