Macintosh Computers and Audio Distortion Issues.

I’m using a Titanium Powerbook with Mac OS-X. No Jaguar yet. I’ve had a complaint about the poor audio that is output from the TiBook, to a Mini-DV Cam, then on to VHS.

Frankly I was skeptical, until I watched a video I’d edited from last spring. I saw it on a normal t.v. for the first time, opposed to viewing it through the speakers linked to the TiBook, on a monitor.

This problem apparently occurs both with iMovie and Final Cut Pro III. ( Hence, my deep concern ). The audio sounds as though it’s garbled. Almost an underwater sound. You can discern most words but even clearly well modulated words have a garbled edge to them. Music is badly garbled.

Has anyone had such issues with a Mac, and does anyone have possible solutions? The only reason to edit on this machine is because of ease of digitizing incoming, and analogueizing outgoing footage. If that process keeps the video intact but wrecks the audio, then it’s not much of a system.

Here is some basic links from the Apple support site. In the knowledge base, I entered “Final cut audio”. I would specifically look into your gain adjustments, I suspect they are too high.

They were, and I’ve gone through each and every shot in the piece, and adjusted the gain. Sigh. I didn’t focus in on that as I went, but my suspicion is that I will be okay by doing it now, that the piece was in the Timeline.

I’m printing to video now,and when I shift it from D.V. to VHS, I’ll know for sure. Thanks. :slight_smile:
