R.I.P almost-Mrs. Spock (Arlene Martel)

Arlene Martel, who played Mr. Spock’s bride-to-be in the Star Trek episode Amok Time, has died.

She was 78.

78, gosh, that’s young for a Vulcan.
(seriously, she was not a “classic beauty” but still very attractive. I remember her from a Twilight Zone episode where she played a morgue attendant/stewardess who did the haunting line, “Room for one more, honey.”.

I posted about her death over in the Death Pool thread I moderate.

My favorite part of that episode “Amok Time” was when she explained to Spock why she chose Kirk as her Champion, with Spock complimenting her logical choice.

It proved that even Vulcans might be adulterers.

She was also in another TZ:TOS episode titled What You Need. Quite the cutie. I binge-watched every episode about eight months ago and Googled most of the actresses to see if they were still alive. Almost every last one of them is gone now. Only Mariette Hartley and a couple of others remain.

She also did a Columbo episode, playing a woman who wasn’t all that bright; I don’t know whether I’m speaking ill of the dead or making a left-handed compliment, but she seemed too brainy to manage it.

I hate to sound creepy, but … has anybody else noticed that lately a lot of celebrities have died not long after being mentioned on the Dope? :dubious:

I mean, I posted a reference to Martel just the other day (in response to another Doper’s post). This is just … too eerie to be pure coincidence. :frowning:

Let’s test this theory: Morley Safer.

There. That should do it.

I associate Arlene Martel with her recurring Hogans Heroes role. She was Tiger an operative in the French Resistance. She was in several episodes and quite beautiful in that role.

All coincidences are eerie when we ascribe meaning to them.

Don’t say it three times, that brings him back.

Yeah, but when was the last time you even THOUGHT about Arlene Martel? :dubious:

RIP. I have never seen the episode but I am now going to have to check that out

Just saw this announcement.

Already a thread on this started by Johnny L.A.

You’d think you’d be first with a relatively obscure actress like that, but http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=731085

Whoops. I thought I searched, but I must have typoed something. Sorry!

 You’ve been stranded on the dark side of the outer moon of Yiktor for the last fifty years?!?

Dun-Dun-DAAN-DAAN-DAAN-DAAN-DAAN-Dun-Dun-DAAN-DAAN!

From the thread title, I thought she almost died.
