R.I.P. Duke basketball legend and NYC saloon keeper, Art Heyman

Story here. I met him a few times at his bar, Tracy J’s, when I lived in NYC. We even stopped in there on the night of my bachelor party. He was a very friendly guy. If you didn’t know that he was a college basketball legend, and a former NY Knick, he’d be sure to tell you (but in a joshing, friendly way.)

Good to hear that he was a friendly guy in person. He had sort of a prickly relationship with his alma mater, I gather (he thought Duke took too long to retire his number for one thing), and some of his former teammates seem to describe him as someone who could be sort of distant.
