R.I.P. The other Fat Lady, Clarissa has died

Clarissa Dickson Wright, one of British TV’s “Two Fat Ladies” has died.

Those two ladies were really fun. And that bike with side-car they would get around on really upped their cool factor.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. :frowning:

Clarissa’s full name: Clarissa Theresa Philomena Aileen Mary Josephine Agnes Elsie Trilby Louise Esmerelda Dickson-Wright.

(Why would you give someone so many names, I wonder. )

Here is a long, grim, heartbreaking, but riveting articleby Clarissa about her life:

She’s been to hell and back.

That’s a shame; she was quite a character!
I used to know her slightly a few years ago but lost touch. I last bumped into her at a signing she was doing at the Edinburgh Book Festival a couple of years ago…

Have just discovered to my surprise that her fellow-Fat Lady (Jennifer Paterson, d. 1999) was a couple of decades older than Clarissa. I harbour mixed feelings about the pair of them – found them at the same time snobbishly irritating; and good fun, with some excellent ideas about food – and politically incorrect to a high degree: sometimes magnificently, sometimes rather nastily. They were colourful characters, that’s for very sure.
