Babar714 and Ultress were no shows even though they RSVP’ed.

The day started about 10 with me, RT, Sqrl, Poly & Mrs. and Aenea meeting at Third Place coffee shop just around the corner from the restaurant. About 11:30, we walked around to the Barton Hayes Grill & Fountain. Sitting on the bench out front were a woman and man. She was Smooth Operator, he was Silo.

At that point, Aenea laid into Silo about his posts and attitude. Some said they thought he was gay (he said not but we’re still not sure)…and eventually he was asked to whip his 15 inches out and prove it. Aenea even offered to take him someplace private and photograph it for prosterity, but he declined.

We eventaually sepearated the two and went inside. The restaurant rocked…good food, cheep prices (at least by DC standards), huge desserts and authentic malts and cherry Cokes.

The best quote of the day was when Sqrl asked Silo why he was being so quite and he said “I’m shy.”

Surgo told us about his mother finding his pot pipe, Falcon was late as usual, Libby became Sqrl’s faghag but Satan wore the I love Sqrl sticker, and even PLDennisson and Peta Tzunami even visited (see pics on Falcon’s site).

We were loud, keep the staff hopping and all had a good time. About 3 we moved outside and kept talking until the North Carolina sun became to hot. RT, Sqrl, Falcon, Cabbage and I headed to DC for the Baltimore/DC Dopefest that night; Satan and Drain Bead left for Columbus; Silo went to his uncle’s for free beer; and Surgo went home (shouldn’t let your parent’s find your stash next time).

All-in-all, we had a good time. And, oh yeah, we found out that Silo isn’t so bad in person…just online.

That sounds right. Everything else that has to be said will be said in the pit. hehehe

Oh, I always wanted a faghag… now Drain, you have to send me good presents. heheheh

HUGS!
Sqrl

Where are people getting numbers like 15 in. Sigh, if you’re dying (and inclined) to know divide 15 by 1.578 on your calculator.

You know I have never been considered possably gay–i’m flattered. But sorry, i’m NOT gay. I like pussy.

I wasn’t sure if aenea “just” wanted to take my picture.
I was having trouble judging that. But she said she was married. When I get married I don’t want my SO to go looking at other guys’ ****s (and you know what comes after that!). So I probably would have done it if you’d said you were single, aenea.

::ducking::

Sorry bout the no-show. I had to go and get me a job. I really regret not being able to meet some of my fellow dopers in person. Hope you all had fun without me.

Wait a second…LATE AS USUAL??? Hmpf.

At any rate…had a wonderful time. Hung out Friday night with DB and Satan watching old AV film clips, which was fucking hilarious. (BTW, you two…I started singing “Shake Hands With Danger” every time I saw a bulldozer on the way home. Damn you both!)

Saturday morning I would not have been late had I not had to 1) Call my father for father’s day before he left on a business trip, and 2) Yahoo maps didn’t suck. Got a wee bit lost. Finally got there and met everyone. Was SHOCKED at how Silo looked. Nothing at all like I pictured him, and he was actually very cool in person. Many comments were made that he’s our only reformed troll to date. (Don’t let it go to yer head, hon.) Had good food, a lot of laughs, and really enjoyed myself. It was also discovered that I’m the reigning champion for most Doper Gatherings attended with 6. Woohoo!

Not so fast there, Falcon. I think you’re tied at 6 with UncleBeer. Columbus, Chicago, Ann Arbor, Springfield, Toledo and Chicago again. Now if you wanna talk miles traveled, you win that hands down.

It sounds like y’all had fun and I’m very happy someone gave Silo a raft of shit.

I had the most fun on Saturday. I don’t think that I’ve laughed that hard in a while. This was my first dopefest (but not my last). I enjoyed meeting all of you. My only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to really talk with the dopers at the other end of the table. Maybe next time. Silo did you have any trouble getting to your uncle’s house?

I’m at 7 or 8, depending on how one counts our early May Saturday-Sunday twofer.

I just had a few questions for him. I know you all would have asked had you been there. And, you will all be very suprised when you see his pic.

The Shindig was great, I’m glad I went.
It’s Monday morning and I have to work for a while, but will post more Saturday details later.

SmoothOperator:

I’ll have to agree with you on that one. Next time, every ten minutes someone will have to yell ‘Rotate!’ and we’ll have to redistribute ourselves in some random order in order to maximize our fellow Doper exposure. I’m sure that RTFirefly can figure something out.

I figured out what Silo’s ‘problem’ is: he’s from Richmond. I guess that’s my ‘problem,’ too. If any of our posts seem(ed) rude, it’s due to environmental influences. He’s still there, so that would explain a lot.

My apologies for showing up late and leaving early. I did have a great time at the south end of the table. From what I could tell, everyone at the north end of the table seemed pretty cool, too. We needed to pump some caffeine into Cabbage. He stayed a little tooo quiet, and when he did talk, it was some b.s. story, like the one about how he got his screen name. (Cabbage – I am just giving you a hard time :))

I’m looking forward to the next Dopefest, maybe on a boat…

Thanks for having Cat and me – we really enjoyed meeting everyone.

{[slight hijack - my apologies] Blue Law Alert: UncleI had too manyBeers last night, and I’m hungover, so don’t f*k with me, or I’ll close this thread faster than you can say ‘Tylenol’* sure is grumpy on Sunday mornings. No flaming until after noon.:wink: [/slight hijack - my apologies]}

damn! lookit all dem smilies!

Drain Bead and myself were a few minutes early because we were waiting for Falcon to meet me at my apartment. She was running late, so we bailed without her, but I knew she had directions so I didn’t feel too badly.

Basic impressions of the fine people there by little ol’ me:

I already met Sqrlcub (though it was nice to show him how confident i was with my heterosexuality and masculinity by hugging him good-bye, which I could not do in DC thanks to his poison ivy) and his man-friend dcnewsman. I feel like Falcon lives in the same town as me I see her so much (and it’s always a pleasure). aenea DOES live in my town (Mexi-lunch at El Dorado the preceeding Friday was cool), and I’ve met Drain bead a few times already as well!

Cabbage was quiet for the most part, and I would have liked to speak more to him. Hopefully at the next gathering we shall spend more time talking.

Myndephuquer blew in and out of the meeting so quickly, I don’t think he took his motorcycle helmet off to eat! Okay, it wasn’t that bad. A totally nice guy with a name that seems nothing like his personality and slight Southern gentleman accent brings out. He holds doors open for old ladies I am sure! Cat, his SO, was nice but seemed slightly scared of us. I guess tht means she’s normal!

Polycarp was high on my list to meet. He was older than I expected, but the same guy we see online - funny, slightly irrevrent, and totally sweet. He and his wife (who wore a hilarious tee-shirt) are what I hope to be when I grow up! Probably because they really haven’t… I love you, dude, and I’m sure you are forgiven for throwing the goat with me!

I knew what RTFirefly looked like from the PETAdennison move. He reminded me of my father - an intellectual type with a problem on his shirt that I could not solve. He seems like he would be fun to hang out with, even though he was the one guy at the table who actually gets some excersise!

Silo was nothing like what I expected! He handled some gratuitious abuse well (which was good for all of the gratuitous abuse he dished out when he was a troll!), and was really a totally cool guy.

SmoothOperator sat right next to me, but we did not speak as much as we could have. But she laughed at all of my jokes, so she must be cool! I liked it when she complained about driving all the way from Durham, and the subsequent stares from the DC contingency! Heh!

Surgoshan was exactly what i expected - a little goofy, a lot of fun, and a perfect mix of self-depricating and confident. I vote him “Most Typical College Student” on the Dope (or at least at the meeting). We joked that I was trying to get rid of the soul I purchased from him on eBay!

Babar714 and Ultress were not there! BOO! :frowning:

We didn’t talk much about people on the boards to be honest. We all were trying to get to know each other as real life people, in fact. Except for the inherent geekiness at the table (except for aenea, of course, heh), you wouldn’t have known we met on-line.

A few memorable moments:
[ul]
[li]Nametags for pldennison and Peta Tzunami are made, and SqrlCub and dcnewsman stand-in for the stand-up couple who stood us up! :D[/li]
[li]Everyone seemed to like the place I picked out. Which was good since I put my reputation as a malted connoseaur on the line![/li]
[li]It was probably the only Doper gathering which did NOT involve alcohol. We all had a good time anyway![/li]
[li]aenea’s badgering of Silo, and their eventual getting along shashingly.[/li]
[li]Poly throwing the goat. I mean, you can’t mention that enough…[/li]
[li]Taking yet ANOTHER piocture of my ass. I got in a good line when I put the “Satan’s Ass” sticker on Libby! :)[/li][/ul]
Well, a good time seemed to be had by all, and I know it was had by me. Can’t wait to see everyone elses pictures - especially since for a change I was not the only photographer of record!

Yer pal,
Satan

I HAVE BEEN SMOKE-FREE FOR:
Two months, one week, three days, 16 hours, 9 minutes and 22 seconds.
2866 cigarettes not smoked, saving $358.36.
Life saved: 1 week, 2 days, 22 hours, 50 minutes.

I left out the part where we alienated Cat (Myndephuquer’s girlfriend for those of the people who don’t read anything…HANDY!) hehehehehe.

Well, MP stepped out for a minutea and left Cat all alone. So, of course, I call her over to talk to us. Well, she was nice and a bit shy. She asked me how I got my nick so I said, “the Sqrl is my totem animal.” To which she replied, “What is that?” I told her, “Well, when I go out and worship the devil all the squirrels come to me.” She looked shocked and didn’t talk much to us after that. Luckily only the totem animal part was true. I was laughing after I said that, but it wasn’t anything that she expected.

Oh well. We sent our pictures to Falcon. I am surprised that she hasn’t gotten them up yet. The digital camera is wonderful and with something like photoshop the worst photographer in the world (me) can even get decent pictures out of it. I only wish I had taken more pictures in DC but by that time I was so exhausted.

HUGS!
Sqrl

Sqrl, I was wondering why Cat had that look on her face when I got back in. I swear I have never seen that particular look on her face before – I wish that I had a picture of it. She did say that you guys called her over, but she didn’t tell me what you talked about. That should have been a good indication of shock/terror. She did say that she had a good time, though. I’m surprised that she didn’t ask you to conjure up some squirrels for her. I’m glad that you posted this, because I distinctly remember that look on her face, and I also recall not knowing what in the hell she was thinking. Now, I guess I have an idea.

Next time, every ten minutes someone will have to yell ‘Rotate!’ and we’ll have to redistribute ourselves in some random order in order to maximize our fellow Doper exposure. I’m sure that RTFirefly can figure something out.

That’s exactly what we need to do. Can’t you just imagine it after everyone has had a drink or two? (didn’t mean to rhyme there)

Sounds like fun was had by all!

It’d been nice to be there, but perhaps I’ll see you guys in Vegas, huh?

Ummm…let’s wait until after we are done eating though. I’m not sure I’d want to eat something that Peta or PL would.

Not all the pictures are coming up (IE is showing the loverly X in it’s place.)

You might try republishing the pictures…in fact that worked for Chris CTP the other day.

< I would love to see the rest of the pics! >

I had to keep refreshing the page, but finally got all the pictures to display.

Falcon, when are you putting up the digital pics I sent you?

When it comes to the worl’s most appropiate cutlines, Brian, I think nothing will ever beat:

“Kneeling is aenea.”

BTW, was it Drain’s idea to pose beside the nifty Navy poster?
