I think he’s in jail for violating parole.
Did some Googling. Probably it’s related to this.
Kareem!
Wow. That was one of the better speeches (Stewart’s) I’ve ever heard by anyone.
Good speech, Jon! Hopefully people will listen.
I’ll take you there!
“Hard times, not End times.”
Classic.
I was happy that he got to a sincere point. I was kind of getting tired of the back and forth between Stewart and Colbert. In fact, it would have been powerful for Colbert to drop the schtick for a moment for a thoughtful comment.
Also, and I realize this is the kind of superficial and petty sort of discussion that Stewart condemns, but I was shocked by the size of that crowd! Jesus H. it was huge.
I’m bummed because I trusted my cable network, which said it started at noon. I’m a daysleeper, so I was going to miss it, so I was going to tape it. Set the VCR (yes, I have no TIVO) and went to bed. Woke up a little after noon to see episodes of scrubs. Apparently it was on at noon, on the east coast. I’m on the west coast, so I missed the whole damn thing.
Oh well. Back to bed.
Well done, Jon Stewart. You really brought it home.
Had to work. Missed it.
Very well done, with few glitches. A couple of bits got tedious, but that’s because my tolerance for Colbert’s schtick has waned over the years.
I missed the whole thing. Is there any chance anyone will rebroadcast it in its entirety?
I am sure Comedy Central will beat it to death.
‘‘Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t the promised land. It’s just New Jersey.’’
How true it is (South Jersey represent!)
I’d buy an “Every Damned Day” t-shirt.
I just wonder if anyone who really needed to hear that message was listening. My guess is that more of the people who made the effort to be there were already committed to reason than fear.
We just got back. I think that the crowd numbers far exceeded what they were prepared for. We were on the national mall between 7th Street and 9th street and the sound was a little faint at times. They could’ve used a few more jumbotrons as well.
The crowd was well behaved and there were a lot of costumes. I saw a few witches, one of whom had a sign saying she was from Delaware and was just like us. I’m trying to figure out what the dragon shaped boat on 7th and Pennsylvania was. I saw signs about Raptor Jesus and someone dressed as the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Getting there and back was easy, but we live fairly close and took Metrobus home. We didn’t rely on the Metro or try to drive there.
I was behind the idea 100% from the beginning, but you know what? I needed to hear that message. No matter how reasonable you are, it’s really easy to lose perspective.
What she said. It gave me real food for thought. This wasn’t just “preaching to the choir.”
I would of preferred a little bit more of the tone of the last 10 minutes throughout the whole thing. I of course expected a whole lot of comedy, but as it was it kind of felt like a whole bunch of people gathering for a taping of The Daily Show/Colbert Report instead of an actual rally of people that want to see a return to moderation in our political discourse.
