I was thinking about coming up with something (not sure if in stage, fiction or film format) about severed limbs being discovered in different areas (with cryptic notes?) in a community/section of town/subdivision. Feet are discovered first, then lower legs, then upper legs, and accordingly, working upwards. Not sure yet if said limbs are from the same body.
Then I’m realising there’s probably books or films covering this ground, and if anyone knows, drop a line here, so I don’t waste my time developing something that’s already been done.
Severed limbs only, so we can avoid references to the film “Seven”, and we can avoid going down the stupid Luka Magnotta road.
ETA - Also The Black Dahlia thing - we can skip that.
Season 1 of Dexter deals with a murderer who dismembers victims and leaves their parts to be found. But I think the whole body is found at once, can’t remember.
Something like that happened in real life, in the mountains north of Los Angeles. A hiker found a limb, and, a little later, someone found another. For a while, people were engaging in wild surmises.
ETA: Anyway, who cares if it’s been done before. Do it your way! Tell your story or make your movie, or whatever. Put your originality into the details. There aren’t any “new idea” in terms of broader concepts, but you can surely come up with some details no one has ever used before. Go for it! Creep us out! (You know we love it!)
Was that the case where someone thought they’d shot a squirrel, but found it was a human’s severed lower appendage? And the detective on the scene declared, “The game is a foot!”
Actually, for full randomness, make them numbered. The sick bastard dismembering people is also branding random numbers on them before dropping them.
And then the hero’s sidekick will find, let’s say, a left arm with the number 2 and thoughtlessly say “Looks like he dropped a deuce over here.”
Well, OK, maybe not. It probably wouldn’t work out as well in print as it did in my head. Carry on.:dubious:
