Random misspellings you've encountered in the wild

Just post whatever misspelled words you’ve seen, no explanation necessary.

That said, I’ll explain that this was inspired by the following misspelling I just encountered on Facebook:

empravise

liquify
sulfer
flourescent

The local free newspaper that used to run The Straight Dope once ran a long article about governments taking over properties, which it consistently referred to as “imminent domain”.

For decades there was a street sign near where I grew up which left out the E in the middle of the name, thus listing the road as “FREDRICK” street. It was a sad day when they finally corrected the sign…

I’ve seen that name spelled that way; are you sure it was wrong?

One goof I’ve long seen is “taking things for granite.” You mean, you’re going to take something and use it for a rock, or your countertop? :stuck_out_tongue:

“Alright” is not a word; I don’t care what anyone says.

In a Publix grocery store: Bisquits

I assume this is directed toward me. The answer is all the other street signs for that road, including the replacement sign, spelled it FREDERICK. In addition, this was in a part of the county where by design all the road names had three syllables. (The east-west road names in the county went through names alphabetically from the southern end to the northern end, starting with one syllable ones in the south and ending with a four syllable name (ARIZONA) in the far north.)

Not exactly a misspelling, but I constantly see the word “phase” used when “faze” is meant. As in “That stuff doesn’t phase me.” Do they think they are in Star Trek?

Maybe not a misspelling, but certainly poor usage or something. I saw a sign at a Kroger supermarket meat market more than 35 years ago, just before Labor Day:

“IT BARBECUE TIME!”

definate
Dalmation
fuschia

I’ve seen each of those so often that I’m actually relieved to see that this site flags each as a misspelling.

“the plot chickens”

This was part of the writer’s note for a fanfic; I pointed out the mistake, but told her it was hilarious enough to leave as is. The chicken stayed.

Nm

There used to be a surplus/salvage store down the street that was selling a “dresser with 5 droors.” By all means, let the illiterate employee make the signs.

I have seen a small-town ice cream stand with a sign that said “Diary Bar”.

I watched a youtube video review of a movie. In text on screen was a note about the bad “special efforts” :smack: (special effects)

Past when they mean Passed.

There was a small outlet mall in my old town, and there had once been a small shop that sold various homemade foods. Their sign had been painted on the wall, and one of the words was “DOUHG.”

oops

I once made a very terse message that would be faxed (that’s how long ago this was) to past due accounts with their monthly statement.

I realized about a year later it had a typo.

:frowning: :smack:

Trematic. :smack:

Loose.

Yeah I know it’s way common but it just bugs me so much more than other spelling errors.

I once found a job advert for an ‘ortonamus worker’. Maybe a dinosaur handler?
