Random Olympic pittings

I get so sick of NBC’s coverage choices that I’d like someone else to get it next time. Too many sappy stories. Sports in which Americans don’t excel are ignored. Endless pissing and moaning about Biles. I’m surprised they haven’t replayed the piss out of Kerri Strug and her gold medal winning vault from decades ago.

I agree about the volleyball group hug for every point. Fucking act like you’ve scored before.

Made me snicker.

I pit all the damned websites who don’t hide results behind a link. Thanks for spoiling about everything.

If you don’t want to know the results of an event what are you doing on a sports page? You want us to hide the results with a scratch bar in the newspaper as well?

It’s all the same. I remember when ABC had it — crappy. CBS had it for a few winter games — crappy. It really makes no difference.

The big difference these last few times is that now there are lots of channels and streaming choices, so even the less popular sports can be seen.

I should be able to open Yahoo to get to my email without seeing results.

NBC has the rights until 2032.
By which time, I may be old enough not to care how they choose to fuck up broadcasting in a new and exciting way.

You are going through a Yahoo landing page to your email? That’s on you. It is not Yahoo’s fault you set up your email like it’s 1996.

I was going to say… I haven’t done that in years either. I have a couple of Yahoo email addresses but I currently access them via Outlook (and prior to that I used Thunderbird). If I wanted to use my browser instead of a dedicated mail client I’d just link directly to Yahoo Mail rather than going to their home page. (I don’t think I’ve visited Yahoo’s home page on purpose for more than a decade.)

It’s easier on my kindle.

They did mention about the volleyball hugs. Apparently, the countdown clock until the next play doesn’t start if they are hugging. It gives them a few seconds of rest if they hug after each play.

Someone in one of the game room threads said that Sling TV has coverage of all the events without the glurge and you can subscribe a month at a time, so you can order it for the Olympics then quit. The Olympics were already 2/3 done by the time I saw that but I’ll keep it in mind for 2024.

In the olden days I used to live for indoor volleyball, the speed and power of it, but then I got over it. Seems a little repetitious.

I also will be looking into this Sling thingie three years hence. I’m not really interested in many events and I’m not interested at all in features, interviews, discussion and intense focus on how Americans are doing.

And I especially want to be able to watch the parade of nations without the patronizing “this country never won a medal, but the important thing is that they’re olympians” bullshit.

You don’t have to wait three years. There’s another Olympics in about six months.

I know, but I’m not very interested in the winter Olympics.

Yeah, it may not sound logical that a fella who mostly likes folks running for various distances around a track doesn’t like slippin’ and slidin’ events but there I am.

So, it’s actually smart strategy!

I was annoyed when they would show the top 3 winners but then show that #6 was from the USA. I’m American sure but it’s just one country out of many competing and I don’t need a focus on how my country is doing.

They’re still doing that. “Here’s your finish in the men’s 1500:”

1…
2…
3…
6. American person
15. Another American person
