Random Olympic pittings

Eh, they’re an American network broadcasting (mostly?) in America. As long as they list the winners first, if they want to tell the home country crowd where the locals finished, it doesn’t seem to be out of line (and I’m certain the athletes families appreciate that their relative got a call out).

American networks that broadcast the Olympics have been doing that forever. It’s never bothered me; in fact, I appreciate knowing where the Americans finished.

This. If my kid/cousin/classmate/neighbor/friend competed in an Olympic event, I would be ecstatic to see her/his name listed amongst the finishers.

I get it. It’s just that I generally don’t care. I understand if others do.

As long as they still show medalists it’s not a big deal. It would be different if they completely ignore the Ukrainian, Chinese, and Irish people who won to focus on the American who placed 9th. They don’t do that, though they do ignore the 4th through 8th place finishers.

Pretty sure all countries do that. Canada certainly does.

Sure. I looked up the men’s marathon results online, and the list mentioned where one British runner finished, and that the other two did not. I looked at the address and saw I was on the BBC’s page.

That’s not nationalistic chauvinism, that’s just the media platforms knowing their audiences.
