Random Questions About Silent Hill (spoilers)

I recently saw the trailer for Silent Hill 5, and it got me ruminating on all the SH games that have come before. After all that thinking, I was left with a lot of questions. Hopefully, someone here can provide the answers. This thread contains spoilers for games 1-3, so if you’re squeamish about such things, read no further.

In Silent Hill 3, who’s the guy who calls Heather to wish her a happy birthday? He says he’s not Leonard or Stanley, and it doesn’t sound like Vincent. So who is he? The ghost of a patient? Or a doctor? Or somebody else?

In the same game, we learn that Alessa/Cheryl/Heather and Claudia are sisters…sort of. We know that Leonard is Claudia’s father, but who is Alessa’s father? Do Claudia and Alessa share the same mother?

What do you think happened to Heather/Cheryl after the events of the game, depending on which ending you prefer?

What’s that thing turning the valve in the hospital, torturing the nurse in the chapel, and tending to God during the final boss battle?

Is SH4 worth playing?

In SH2, how long has James’ wife been dead, exactly? Laura says she met Mary in the hospital last year, but according to James, Mary’s been dead for three years. She’s apparently been dead long enough for James to have a developed a drinking problem, but he could have done that while she was still dying.

In the same game, what’s with the radio game show? Who is that guy?

We know that Angela killed her father, but what happened to her mother and brother?

In SH1, can Dahlia see the same monsters that everyone else does? Can they hurt her?

What did Dahlia mean by, “Herein lies the mother’s womb, containing the power to create life?” A lot of what that woman said is a mystery.

As for the town itself…is it really abandoned, or does it just appear that way to the characters in the game? It’s been implied that people see different monsters different ways, but could they just be regular townsfolk?

And last, but not least…WTF?

I have a ton of others, but this’ll do for now. As you can tell, I’m a bit of a fan.

Dan Birlew, who now writes for Brady Games, did some very in-depth analysis of the first two games that address some of your questions (and are actually quite interesting in and of themselves).
