Random Return of the Jedi question...

In Return of the Jedi, in Jabba’s Palace, I never really got why that one kind of unattractive dancer with the head tails was kept on a leash and why everyone in Jabba’s court seem to dislike her? When Leia was there I understand, she was obviously “caught” and was a prisoner (though even she seemed to get respect), but Jabba had plenty of other (prettier) dancers, who all were free to roam, and seemed content to flirt with Boba Fett and whatnot. But that girl was collared, ignored (except for the fat dancer who mocked her) and then dropped like a dog after her dance, at which point everyone finally took notice to laugh sadistically at her. Seemed like she was being punished for being “unworthy” of Jabba (in his eyes), or that she accidentally made him mad. Is that why the other dancers get positive attention while her only attention is when she is killed?

She didn’t get dumped in the Rancor Pit just because of her dance. After her dance, Jabba tried to pull her in for some fun and games, and she resisted. THAT’S why she got dropped. And everyone jeered her and cheered the rancor on because Jabba’s the boss and they’re all sycophants.

Oola.

unattractive?

She’s like a conehead with an overly-ambitious silicone implant.

I agree with your questioning the OP. I just spent twenty minutes googling Oola images.

“Fun and games”?? Yeeeeesh yuck. Still - being a slave and all - she probably should have realized she didn’t have much choice in the matter. Yeah Jabba’s ugly - but she wasn’t exactly Kim Kardashian herself, so being suddenly stuck-up about being beside Jabba was pretty foolish for someone without any power to exert.

Well - yeah that was maybe incorrect. She was certainly showing a lot of skin, that’s true. But yeah the whole “conehead” thing with tails on her head instead of hair…compared to Leia she didn’t have much to offer.

It’s my understanding that, in Star Wars canon, those are meant to be prehensile. Search your feelings; you know this to be true.

This is not the porn you were looking for.

The actress was brought back for a brief couple of shots in the Special Edition. It was fifteen years later, and yet she was just as fit, if not more so, than originally. That’s impressive.

I think its just to show that collaring captured attractive prisoners for a little cuddling is something Jabba does regularly. So Leia isn’t really unique in that regard, presumably Oola did something to piss of Jaba.

Yep, prehensile and capable of fine manipulation. The Twileks (Bib Fortuna is a male Twilek) can use them to send secret sign language messages to each other.

Re Jabba’s Desires

I can’t recall whether he actually wanted sex with Oola, or if he just wanted to gross out others and display his power by getting her to submit. Jabba was big on having people do submission displays.

Prehensile huh? Well they didn’t do her much good. Just kind of hung there. If they could have caught the floor on her way down to the pit, that’d be impressive, I’ll admit.

I’m guessing it was sexual in nature seeing as she’d already submitted in every other way (and probably already had in that way too, judging by her lack of attire ) and judging by the way she freaked out…

Makes sense though. Big gangster shows his power by lording it over the weak. Win win for him; she comes, he gets pleasure…she doesn’t, he shows what happens to naughty subjects such as her, and get sadistic pleasure additionally. The situation is probably just as much a power struggle (a lopsided one) as it was about his ‘excitement’.

Best line in the thread.
I am amazed at the analysis you all have put into this. I can’t believe there was this much thought in the whole scene!

Lucas - “toss the green one down the hole.”

“That’s a wrap!”

I didn’t have to use my brain at all. I just looked up Oola in the lonee Star Wars RPG book I have. The writers of that book have given every single entity in Jabba’s palace a full backstory. According to Lucas, what’s written in the RPG books is cannon.

A lot of the backstories originally came from the story collection “Tales from Jabba’s Palace”.

So humancentric. Jabba could be quite fetching for all we know.

Haha! Too true, I guess it was humancentric to say so. Apparently Jabba’s slave didn’t find him too “fetching” either though! At least I can get away with being queezy from him - her playing the purity & “you’re not my type” cards didn’t go over as well.

No offense meant, Doc.

Oh, none taken. I was just saying that the fans aren’t the only people who put way too much thought into this stuff.
