Random Return of the Jedi question...

Hmmm - well I think it’s implied that he certainly did SOMETHING to make her uncomfortable. That whole “I can’t bear to watch” statement from 3PO makes the audience wonder what he didn’t want to see, of course.

Was it supposed to be obvious that he had assaulted Oola at some point? It sure seemed as though he had from their altercation.

Probably he intended to, but I’m not sure that he would have at that point. Leia was more of a “prisoner” type slave, while Oola seemed almost more to get the toy or dog he does whatever he wants to treatment…In other words he may have held Leia with a bit more respect and therefore held back a bit.

And at any rate, yes she probably was more complacent knowing rescue was coming, as opposed to Oola who rebelled from some other foolish ambition.

Oola’s dramatic purpose in the film was undoubtedly to make Leia’s jeopardy evident to the movie’s viewers. Seeing another of Jabba’s slaves executed on a whim makes Slave Leia’s peril very clear. Plus, of course, Star Wars being a family film they could not have shown any sexual peril she might have been in, hence violent peril was their option. So, goodbye Oola!

But, of course, it’s pretty clearly implied, between the outfit and the dancing and the pulling on the chain.

Right - being a family film they obviously can’t be explicit, I was just wondering if the implication was that this kind of thing was “normal” for Jabba to do with his possessions - she seemed pretty familiar with what he was going to do, judging by her reaction. And the outfit didn’t help her cause, agreed.

But certainly, violent peril was something they could SHOW as a set up for the danger Leia & friends would be put in.

Oola-loola, dunkity-dankor…
Piss off big Jabba, you’re food for the rancor…

Haha - who are the Oompa Loompas? The pig guards??

Good lesson I guess. When Jabba wants you back, you come running.

Speaking of, I always found it weird too how she can somehow pull her chain and keep away from Jabba while Leia gets yanked around like no one’s business. How does SHE of all people put up such a good fight? Was Oola really that buff??

Leia was putting on a show of being cowed into compliance, to keep Jabba from suspecting anything. She knew she’d have other options for escaping him, and didn’t want to squander them.

Probably Bib Fortuna and the other dancing girls…the typical Gamorean isn’t really smart enough to come up with a rhyming couplet.

Another possibility is that Leia actually loves the Hutt cock. Looooves it.

Which is actually something that takes away from Han Solo when you think about it. When you watch the films, it makes sense for him to be wary of that huge, dangerous crime boss with his tentacular organization. In fact, since Han is such a veteran badass on screen, he makes Jabba look almost Vader-like in power.

Then if you’re into the EU you discover that Jabba, far from being Don Corleone IN SPACE!, is really just a sicko and a bit player who’s slumming it in the ass end of the galaxy with a handful of goons while homegrown Hutts show you what a real galaxy-wide crime operation looks like. Hell, in the KotOR games the slugs have a standing bounty on Jedi. And their goons collect more often than not.
And suddenly Han kinda sorta ends up looking like a bitch in retrospect. But not as much as Bobba Fett :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I wrote a bit of Leia/Jabba slash in which I suggested that the Hutt had evolved from ambush predators who used addictive pheremones to attract their prey, which was so successful that they eventually became sluglike because they didn’t really need to pounce on their prey. Over time this evolved into a means of controlling other species as well … the true secret of Hutt power. Since they could tailor the pheremones to their prey’s biochemistry if they got close to them so they could get samples, Hutts would often chain individuals they wished to enslave using the pheremone control close to them. Hence, Leia and Oola chained to the podium. Leia resists the pheremones using techniques taught to her as a Nabooian royal, but it’s a really rough time for her. So, in my story … yes, she does!

I gotcha. Makes sense, since Leia knew there was an end in sight, while Oola probably thought any chance she could escape might be her last. Still seems like she should have been pulled into Jabba pretty easily too - she was kind of scraggly - but maybe Jabba was “toying” with her.

Dude fourmica, you have questions like this one all over the internet! For a guy who claims that Oola is unattractive you sure seem to have something with an obsession with her. So I’m calling you out! Admit your true feelings and all will be forgiven.
