If the Diamondbacks deal Randy Johnson, it will be to free up salary room. No-mah won’t do that for them.
However, don’t discount the idea that RJ could end up in Boston (or elsewhere) for prospects or cash.

They’re both free agents after this year. Arizona might want to dump salary, but they’d want prospects instead.

I don’t know how the salaries of Nomar and RJ compare, but we already know that the Red Sox aren’t willing to spend on the players they really need. If they were, Alex Rodriguez would be playing in Boston.
