Rankin-Bass (Thundercats!)

O.k., most of us children of the 80’s saw (and loved) the Thundercats. Great Show, but I digress… Does anyone remember the two Rankin-Bass off-shoot shows “SilverHawks” and “TigerSharks”? SilverHawks was its own strip, and TigerSharks was part of The Comic Strip. Even with the SilverHawks being a major influence on the comic book revival of the mid-90’s ( <—opionion ) I think I liked the TigerSharks better. Which did you like?

p.s. ATTN grammar freaks: pardon my use of quotes and italics, I just don’t care to remember how to properly do it for a non-movie.

Silverhawks is still on Cartoon network. I watched it last weekend. Great cartoon. Check out http://www.yesterdayland.com
It’s all about the cartoon, video games, music, and toys that you thought you forgot about.

damn you pezpunk and your uncanny ability to keep up with me on posts!

lol, so which did you like better, man?

Tough question but I think that silverhawks has the edge. Thundercats kicked both there asses though. SNARF

We should chnge the name of this thread to: “Two punks in Tampa talking about cartoons.”

broccoli!

Children, please…

As much as I liked Thundercats, I did like cyborgs more, so Silver Hawks gets my vote. I would kill for a replica of that Hawk they had. Just for sheer coolness.

Real mom checking in here. I spoke fluent Thundercats (and later Ninja Turtles). I found the SilverHawks to be quite inferior, in that the toys in particular had a tendancy to break quickly when played with. I did NOT find this to be true of the Thundercats themselves (we even sent away for the special edition of the Mumra). there, my vote is registered.
(by the way, last spring when my son was in the ICU, one of the things I gave him was a thundercats tape- made him feel better)

…and I am now officially hawking my thread…

eBay my friend, eBay. I saw soo much crap there last month on both the ThunderCats and on the SilverHawks. There were a shitload of the ‘Quicksilver’ guy. And I agree that either the SilverHawks or the TigerSharks would kill off the Thundercats, as they are effective in more than one environment, and the lead characters all seem to be about equally powerful. Lion-O just can’t compete in space like Quicksilver could, nor can he breathe underwater like Mako.

fun!

wring I’m not talking about the quaility or diversity of the toys  I was just mainly asking which Rankin-Bass side project we liked better, the 'Hawks or the 'Sharks

broccoli!

Thanks, but I knew that. As a mom, of course, the relative value for the dollar of course is an absolute factor in the assessment, tho

Oh man! You da man!

The Silverhawks was a top quality show. I didn’t care much for the TigerSharks, but man do I remember running around the playground wishing I had wings that popped out whenever my arms hit my sides!

[apology]
Wasn’t trying to insult your intelligence  I just really hate Merchandising. Especially Grinch merchandice, but I digress…

I found one of my old SilverHawk toys yesterday. It’s one of the later ones. I can’t remember his name. He’s metallic green, and one of his arms is un-metalled for lack of better phrase. His wings pop out but they are not attached to his arms. He was one of the characters they brought in before the end days to revive the series. I think he was Irish or Scottish or something… anyone know his name?

Broc,
There was one Silverhawk named Flashback that was greenish, he was a future model SilverHawk that could travel back in time. When they introduced him, the old guy (i forget his name, same voice as Monstar and Mum-Ra) was really old and was telling him the story about how all the SilverHawks were killed by Monstar, so this green guy goes back in time to save them.

Personally I think the SilverHawks may have been a cooler idea, the quality of the cartoon was inferior to ThunderCats. Their spaceship shot a rainbow out of it’s butt, and they had two characters that attacked with musical instruments…sheesh. And when they got hurt they fell down…in space.

Anyway, it’s funner to say Thundercats, Ho! than TallyHawk!

I hate broccoli!

The vegetable that is.

I do love your username and your new sig is great!

Regarding your questions, I had never even heard of TigerSharks but I LOVED SilverHawks and ThunderCats. Both ruled! FWIW, I liked the felines better than the hawks. The astronomy questions were cool by the way! Easy, but cool.

Since we are talking about the subject, somehow I missed the last few episodes of ThunderCats. :o

Can anyone of you, cartoon freaks, brief me in on how the show ended? Thanks.

I post, therefore I am.

Just had to get that out of my system. I thought the SilverHawks kicked ass. However, that kid, I think it was Tally Hawk, got on my damn nerves with his frigging whistling. Learn sign language or kabuki or stamp your foot, anything but the incessant whistling.

thankx, quasar (i’m just gonna stick with eastern zodiacs, at least they give ‘props’ to dogs)

Hey, for anyone who want’s it - I have a small movie file of Mum-Ra’s changing speech and the ThunderCats theme, I can’t find any TigerSharks crap to save my reputation as a 'net hunter. SilverHawks I do not have on basis of I hated their theme song…

here’s the summary from the last listed episode from: http://www.btinternet.com/~davidsdomain/episodes.htm

The Book of Omens
New Thundera is being torn apart and the Thundercats must present certain artifacts at various dangerous locations that used to be beautiful places, then Lion-O must go into the book and give the Key of Thundera to the guardian of the book “at the 24th hour,” or the Thundercats will be frozen in time and New Thundera will be destroyed. But Mumm-Ra steals the book and key and journeys into the book himself. He wants to save New Thundera BUT wants the Thundercats frozen in time. But the Ancient Spirits of Evil try to stop Mumm-Ra because they fear if Mumm-Ra went into the book, their powers will cease to exist. The other Thundercats run into problems also at the various locations they are supposed to be at. Lion-O goes into the book using the Sword of Omens and battles Mumm-Ra one on one, but even when Mumm-Ra cheats, Lion-O still wins… just in time.

Rock on! Did I meet you guys at a Halloween party? I sat and talked ThunderCats and SilverHawks all night with two guys. 'Course, it WAS in Chicago, not Tampa, but if you met someone dressed as a Girl Scout at a Halloween party and talked about cartoons, hey! That was me. And please don’t ever try to contact me, because although it was fun talking cartoons, you guys weren’t nearly dorky enough for me.

Uh…yup. Anyway…

Tiger Sharks I do not remember. But I used to watch ThunderCats and Silverhawks with my dad every afternoon. I loved at the end of Silverhawks when they would ask astronomy-related questions, since I am a slight astronomy buff and would feel like such a bad-ass knowing the answers.

Between those two, however, I would have to favor Thundercats.

Go to
http://www.newsgrounds.com
clink on “portal” on the left side where it says “5 all time best” or something like that. Then pick #6 on the all time favorites. It’s called Blundercats. Sorry I couldn’t post a URL but there isn’t one.

It’s a flash movie parody of Thundercats outtakes. ENJOY!
