Rant-a Claus is coming to town! (December mini-rants)

Okay, American Girl? I can’t even. When I first heard that their new book about health and body image was talking about gender questioning and puberty blockers, I thought it had to be a joke. A sick joke, by some anti-trans group who did a mock-up of the real book, wanting to present it as a worst-case scenario. But it’s for real. Seriously, I am not anti-trans. And I was starting to wonder if something was wrong with me because I’m so disturbed by this.

But then I found out that Caitlyn Jenner is condemning this. Caitlyn freakin’ Jenner, who transitioned very publicly, and who, unless I’m mistaken, is a role model for many pre- and post-trans people. If she’s on camera saying that puberty blockers are unhealthy, and that this is “the woke world gone crazy,” a lot of people are going to listen. AG has been defending themselves, but now they might start walking it back.

Honestly, I agree with Jenner: kids with ages in the single digits don’t need to be worrying about this. Who is in charge at AG nowadays? (And if you’re wondering why a childless person even cares, I’m a middle-aged woman with a hobby; deal with it.)

Your link is to Fox News. Caitlyn Jenner endorsed Trump. Got any better links?

Re ‘No Kid Under 10 Needs To Worry About This’

Puberty has been happening earlier and earlier in the US. Last I checked, nobody was quite sure why. When I asked how a friend’s kids were, he said his 10 year old daughter had “become a woman”. It took me a minute to realize he meant she had reached menarche. A menstruating 10 year old would have been a great statistical outlier when I was a kid. Now, she seems to be right in the meaty part of the bell curve.

And we should all care what modern pop culture is teaching our kids.

If this link doesn’t work, try googling it.

WTF?! The whole post erased?! I swear, I wasn’t trying to walk back my post! Paraphrased: American Girl has a new book about body image, which talks about puberty blockers, FFS. I’m disturbed by this, and so are a lot of other people. Including Caitlyn Jenner, who spoke on camera about how puberty blockers are unhealthy, and the book, or at least this section, is an example of “the woke world gone crazy.” AG have been defending themselves, but now that a trans icon is condemning them, they may have to walk it back.

And I am not anti-trans. I just think this is a lot, for a book aimed at kids with ages in the single digits.

The link functioning is not the problem. The problem is that it goes to Fox News. If they reported the sky was blue, I’d assume it was night and the sky was black.

Okay, how about Snopes?

Look, talking about pronouns is not only okay, but necessary. It’s basic good manners nowadays to use someone’s correct pronouns. And telling girls they can dress and have their hair how they want is pretty much what they’ve been saying all along: there’s no one way to be a girl, and you do you. But puberty blockers? Aw, hell naw. Gender questioning and transitioning is just too complex a subject for a simple kids’ book. Again, I’m not anti-trans. I just think there’s a time and place for everything.

So I’m 99% sure my car has been stolen, and I reported it as such. It was a 2000 Civic, so I didn’t think it’d be very attractive (though it didn’t have a lot of miles on it, relatively speaking). I had a theft deterrent device, but I can’t remember if I remembered to put it on the last time I left the car on Tuesday, so it might be partially my fault.

So, yeah. I can take the financial hit, but I won’t like it. The time and effort really suck, though. I’d been musing on getting a newer car, but obviously not because I had to…

Snopes quotes AG as saying the book is aimed at ages 10 and up. That’s old enough to be hitting puberty and definitely not too young for talking about puberty blockers. Your argument that it is ‘just too complex a subject for a simple kids book’ is laughable. We can and do give kids books on slavery and the holocaust. Puberty blockers in a book? no biggie.

Despite being trans, Caitlyn Jenner is quite anti-trans. Instead of being a role-model and leader to support others, she has pretty much shit on the community.

?
What’s the 1% uncertainty?

When I was in Florida for my son’s wedding a few years ago I couldn’t find my rental car in a parking lot. At one point I was 25% sure it was stolen, but it was a huge parking lot, I was very tired, and had a few drinks with lunch. I found it.

The tiny chance that I might have parked it in the wrong assigned space, and it was towed by a company other than the one contracted with the apartment complex. Or that somehow my car being towed slipped through the cracks at both the tow company and the apartment office, which is supposed to know of all tows.

So maybe less than 1%, but still there, IMO.

Caitlyn Jenner is like a Really Bad Scene in the movie ‘Heavy Metal’…

Update: I have a fridge! No rants today.

It’s nice, it’s a smaller size for our smaller space, but deeper than the old one, and it’s already at temp.

Next step is getting a plumber out here to put in a water line and shut-off valve. But I think I’m gonna hold off for a bit because I’m tired of fridge things.

Yaaay Shiny Fridge!!!

My next-door neighbor’s 1999 Civic had a tire stolen off it overnight a couple months ago, and the 3 other tires’ lug nuts had been loosened (they must have gotten spooked or something and fled). Evidently there’s a big market for older Civics and/or their parts.

Hoping you recover your car in usable condition.

When this happened to my daughter’s car, we were told that it needed to be reported as stolen to the police in order to find out which towing company had it and to hopefully stop it from getting auctioned off in 2 weeks. Or something like that.

I’ve been going to a nice church for about a year. It has a lot of people, is a denomination, and they helped me with my rent.
Yet I find an anti gay post online. I help people, I don’t hate them, when challenged. Giving out food, etc. Is helping, but that has nothing to do with making gay folk think their very existence is a sin!
Not much makes me mad, but this issue does, as my son was gay, and he Is in heaven.

I can relate. I’m not Orthodox due to many small disagreements and a few big ones. Most Conservative groups are not quite right for me either. I found the perfect congregation at Camp Isabella Friedman- it’s a bunch of religiously observant Jewish hippies. Tragically, the camp is only for two weeks each year and is in Connecticut.

Finding a place of worship that’s the right fit can be tough.

Posted by the denomination, the local church, a private individual speaking on behalf of the church, or a private individual speaking on their own behalf?

Private individual claiming to speak for all christians.

With well over two billion Christians in the world, there are bound to be some jerks. (Which, incidentally, is approximately ten contemporary Christians for every human being alive during Jesus’s lifetime.)
