Rare sighting of the Aurora Australis in Sydney

An interesting article on the Sydney Observatory website. Yesterday morning (23 June) a photographer got shots of the aurora australis from La Perouse, a southern Sydney suburb on the shores of Botany Bay.

It is very rare to see an aurora as far north of the polar regions as Sydney (at a latitude of 34 degrees south).

Nice.

On occasions when I’ve seen the aurora borealis I’ve been impressed.

The first time I ever saw it was as a teenager after taking LSD for the first time ever. I didn’t know what to think. I was completely cognizant and aware yet the sky was erupting in colourful hues. Blew me away.

Yeah, well I am seriously pissed-off. A local photographer took some photos at 6.15am yesterday, RIGHT OUTSIDE MY WINDOW VIEW OF THE OCEAN…and the photos looked amazing, but I didn’t wake yesterday until 7am.

:mad: :mad::mad:

You snooze, you lose. :smiley:

Well, you might possibly get another shot at it tonight – there’s another round of solar debris heading our way, but they don’t know yet how strong it will be.
