Everything old is new again…Hugh Hefner has brought back the original Playboy Bunnies (well, I don’t think they are the same women, but…) with the original Playboy Bunny outfits from the 50’s. The grand opening is tonight, but from the pictures and the description, this sounds like it could be fun in a kind of retro-Rat Pack kind of way.
I can remember my friend Mark and I sneaking copies of his father’s Playboys “hidden” under his dad’s bed, and while Mark was looking at the pictures, I was reading the articles (gee, wonder if that might have been a clue to me being Gay back then).
Still - there was always something sort of…“classy” about the magazine, despite the reputation and I guess if they are going to bring back an orginal Playboy Club, with the original outfits, there probably isn’t a place better than here in Las Vegas.
Just thought you might be interested should you be looking for things to do in Las Vegas on your next visit.
Just wondering - does this sound like a fun place to go, or does it sound like a fun place to send your dad?
(Allow me to add shameless plug for my Las Vegas website)
I think you’re totally misreading what the place is. First of all, we’re talking the Palms- the place where the hot lil’ hot youngins go to get drunk and shake their asses. That’s exactly what the Palms is known for.
Top that with the fact that Playboy is trying their damndest to appeal to a younger generation and appear younger themselves (not an easy thing to do when the head is 80). Have you seen the show The Girls Next Door ? It’s on E! and it’s about Hef’s three lil’ girlfriends. On one episode, they were all at the Palms to unvail the new bunny costumes that are designed by famed designer Roberto Cavalli. From the Palms website is a picture that shows the new costume. The girl on the left is Hef’s main girlfriend Holly and she’s wearing a new design. The new costumes are a bit sluttier than the past ones, as the crotch is thinner and higher cut than previous ones. The tops are even smaller. So I’m pretty certain that they don’t plan on using old costumes, why else would they hire a designer to make new ones? An article on the change.
Just from the marketing I’ve seen on TV shows and around Vegas the last time I was there, I think this place is going to be a new, hip club. Granted, they are going for a bit of a retro feel, but I think the crowd will mostly be younger folks and new Playboy fans.
I think it sounds fun (gambling and stuff all mixed in with a club) and when I turn 21 in January, I think I’ll pop by.
I didn’t hear about this, so thanks for the thread. We’re going in January and I’ll definately have to stop by.
However there is a better place to open a Playboy club, 116 E. Walton in Chicago. It’ll always bother me that I wasn’t old enough to have ever gone. I do have my stepdad’s key though.
It’s been a good mix for Playboy in the past. They had gambling at the London Playboy Club when I visited in the late 1970s. And the Playboy Casino at Atlantic City in the early 1980s had gambling, of course. Even after it ceased being a Playboy place (and i never did find out why they left) it continued to use the same decor and even the same outfits for the women (minus the ears and tails).
by the way, the Playboy casinos at AC and London are the only casinos I’ve ever been in that had windows looking out. Most casinos don’t want you to be aware of time, so they shut you in, away from the sun. But the Playboy casino in London had a great viewe of the Park, and the AC one looked out over the ocean. Does the Las Vegas club have windows?
Good question, but my educated guess is yes, considering they are way up there in a brand new high rise building with killer views, would be really, really stupid not to be able to look out over the Strip…but I will watch tonight’s local news and I am sure they will be having a local reporter on site and usually they pan over the rooms…will let you know about that.
I remember walking by the place once and shortly afterwards, it closed…I am no expert on the Playboy empire…the key sounds cool…bring it to Vegas and see what they say when you show it…might be good for a laugh, or who knows, they might let you in at a discount?
And DiosaBellissima, I stand corrected, although all of the local press has been hawking the story for months and I know they have constantly said that the “old” Playboy outfits were being brought back…but from the link you posted, they sure don’t look like the outfits in my friend’s dad’s magazines from back then!
Well, tonight is the big opening, so my guess is that the local news will be all over the story in tomorrow’s broadcasts…so I will let you know what they said, or provide you all with a link to one of the local stations to watch for yourself.
DUDE! Here I was, thinking you might POSSIBLY be cool in a gay or at least a 21st Century manner and there you blow it. A Playboy key CAN’T be cool, can it, even in a Retro way? Can I get you your walker?
And if Hef can still get away with wearing silk pajamas and smoking a pipe in his 80’s, and still be surrounded by dropdeadgorgeous women in their 20’s on his circular bed, I think there are probably a few straight guys who would like to have the key to that door.
And as long as you are standing, go get that bottle of Viagra in the medicine cabinet for me…there is an early bird special at Chippendales…foot long hot dogs and a show for $5.00 (I got a coupon)…and I have a roll of quarters to tip the boys.
