It was announced in October that Playboy is opening a Playboy Club in London, the second new club after one in Las Vegas. Here’s the website.
Anyone going to this one? Anybody want to apply? Or does anybody remember going to the old Playboy Clubs?
I went to the Playboy Club in Atlantic City back in the seventies. I was around thirteen or fourteen at the time so as you can imagine I was most impressed.
I’ve never been to one.
What do people do in a Playboy club? Gamble? Or is it only a restaurant and a bar?
Do they also have exotic dancing (i.e. strippers)? Is it a brothel, where for a fee you and a playboy bunny can go have sex in a back room?
The original London location was both a nightclub and casino, as is the new Las Vegas one. Most clubs were only nightclubs. There were never any strippers and far from being a brothel, you could get tossed out for even touching the bunnies.
The original idea was that the Playboy Clubs would mainly be nightclubs where you could drink and dine. But it turned out the only ones that were financially successful were the ones that were also casinos. The limits of sex in the Playboy Clubs were the same as they were in most other casinos and nightclubs - you had attractive waitresses in scanty uniforms but that was it.
I visited the Playboy Club in London many years ago. The gambling was one of the attractions – certainly most of the Playboy Clubs didn’t offer it, and I don’t know of any others that did. Many years after that I visited one of the Midwest US clubs, when they were disappearing. I’d be curious to see the new London club.
One thing that surprised me was how small the urban clubs were. I’ve seen the New York and Boston clubs from the outside, and they were tiny, as was the London one. The Midwest clubs were separate buildings, out away from everything else and all on one level, and there was a completely different feel .
I went to one in Omaha in the mid to late 80’s. It seemed to be just a bar/restaurant without any gambling.
