RDJ signed for next 2 Avengers movies

The Secret Service might take issue with him, as this is clearly a license to print money.

…accidentally killing his girlfriend…

We’ve all been there!

C’mon, that was during Marvel’s “very special episode” phase. They made Harry a heroin addict, for goodness’ sakes. Wasn’t there an issue about demonstrations or civil rights as well?

Amphetamines.

He was injecting amphetamines? I remember a big to-do at the time because they showed a needle. It’s been 40 years, I could be mis-remembering…

When the rumors of him doing “black face” in that film came out I had to quirk a skeptical eyebrow. But really it is a pretty awesome acting job, probably one of his best in a fairly substantial career. As extremely silly comedies go, that one is pure gold.

I assume this is what you’re talking about:

[QUOTE=Wikipedia’s entry on Spider-Man]
An early 1970s Spider-Man story led to the revision of the Comics Code. Previously, the Code forbade the depiction of the use of illegal drugs, even negatively. However, in 1970, the Nixon administration’s Department of Health, Education, and Welfare asked Stan Lee to publish an anti-drug message in one of Marvel’s top-selling titles. Lee chose the top-selling The Amazing Spider-Man; issues #96–98 (May–July 1971) feature a story arc depicting the negative effects of drug use. In the story, Peter Parker’s friend Harry Osborn becomes addicted to pills. When Spider-Man fights the Green Goblin (Norman Osborn, Harry’s father), Spider-Man defeats the Green Goblin, by revealing Harry’s drug addiction. While the story had a clear anti-drug message, the Comics Code Authority refused to issue its seal of approval. Marvel nevertheless published the three issues without the Comics Code Authority’s approval or seal. The issues sold so well that the industry’s self-censorship was undercut and the Code was subsequently revised.

Addendum:

GL/GA # 85 has a hypodermic needle on the cover. Maybe that’s what you’re remembering?

Here.

Could be. Speedy doing heroin just because the Green Arrow is away says so much about American attitudes towards drugs. :rolleyes:
