Without jumping the gun too much, I think you can expect it to be about as fast as we were right before The Crash. It’s basically the old server with a few tweaks, running software that requires a little more power than the old one. Ergo, about the same speed in total, ceteris paribus.
Luctor et Emergo huh?
Will this mean the post-12/7/01 messages will be restored, or are those gone forever?
Gone forever. It’s just the machine that’ll be the same again.
When the board goes down for installation of the new(er) server, does this mean we’ll lose all posts made on that day? Or will Jerry do a backup before the switcheroo?
It’ll just be down for a few hours, and then pop up again. Read the announcement at the top of all fora for more info.

Hey, it’s faster! Nice! I think I can get used to this…
::sits back, puts feet on table::
slower for me. And I’ve got a dsl line (attached via aol) Is that the problem?
I got cable, and I use it through AOL too (I think that’s what you were talking about). And like I said, it definitely feels faster than before.
Well, it’s faster for me so far. ADSL connection.
But generally, the board speed isn’t altered much by fast connections. The huge demand is the cap on the speed. I doubt you can load threads faster on DSL or cable than on, say, an ISDN line, except in ideal conditions (read: middle of the night or something).
It’s faster for me now [adsl]
Couldn’t get in last night. Around 23.00 hours, Dutch time. [ you know what time that is on this board, Coldfire?]
't is a pity. I like to play movie-games, but I haven’t a chance in hell.
About 16:00 hours Chicago time. Funny, I was surfing the boards happily about 30 minutes later.
** Coldfire** It’s as fast as thick poop climbing a mountain, right now
Please don’t tell me it’s me, cause it’s not. No problem whatsoever with notoriously slow sites elsewhere.
