As sam noted in the thread, we had some discussion among the staff over the last few days and the consensus was that it could be re-opened. (Staff discussions may go a little slow at times, especially on weekend, if some of us are not around, including in this case Ellen).
Totally understandable and I appreciate that you all took the time to consider this. In the future it might be helpful if you put a note in the thread telling us that you’re discussing it and that you’ll get back to us.
Could you guys continue that discussion and come to the conclusion that it never should have been closed in the first place?
Now you’re just riding our collective asses. What purpose is served by a comment like this?
Yeah, a little bit. But the lesson here isn’t “look how benevolent we were for reopening the thread” it is “yeah, that never should have been closed in the first place - sorry about the confusion”.
The Moderators were correct to close it pending further discussion. The end decision does not change that fact.
The fact that they eventually reopened it means that they thought that the original closure was a mistake. That makes it a done deal as far as I’m concerned. I don’t need anything else.
What, and cut short all the opportunities to express righteous indignation? What would be the fun in that?
Who implied we were being “benevolent” in reopening it? I think you’re taking this a bit too seriously.
No, it means the belief that the thread was inappropriate was a mistake. It does not mean that a temporary closure so Moderators can decide what to do is itself a mistake. The two items are both different and separate.
Whatever. That’s exactly what I meant.
