Just wondering what you meant by this. Did I say something I shouldn’t have, or step on toes somehow? If so, didn’t mean to! (Or were you just sorry I made the suggestion?)
I expect that tomndebb is somewhat jocularly explaining that he is not enthusiastic about moderating another one of those trainwrecks in GD. Either that, or he hates you. Or, of course, both.
He was just showing you his big moderator dick, that’s all.
Of course…I should have figured that one out (the first reason you give…I already knew the second one). Baby was up a couple of times last night, and I’m all fuzzy-headed today.
Sorry, Tom!
I assume he was snarkily pointing out that you could not assume the thread was going to close just because you requested it nor is it really up to you whether people can start a new thread in GD.
edit: I guess Frank’s idea is more likely.
Not sure about your first suggestion, because I think the mods will close any thread at the request of the OP. Your second one was what I was thinking
But I think you’re right here, too.
No, they make a judgment call. They especially don’t like to close them if the thread has “turned” on the OP, but they also may leave a thread open if others are engaged in discussion even if the OP is sick of the thread. That one was so long already, though, it was a good bet they’d kill it for you.
Tom seems remarkably level-headed, a rare thing for any moderator on any forum. If he does hate you, then you must have really wormed yourself under his skin.
As for “the List”…well, if you were on my “list”, that would be very bad news. But for Tom, it probably means he’s watching you a lot closer than other members. In other words, you’re high on his radar right now. 'Nuff said.
(One wonders why you’d continue to pester somebody when you believe they hate you…)
Not necessarily.
For my money, it felt a little awkward to end on my last post. I had a fear that it might seem like my transgressions were somehow worse than I think they were. I mean, I regretted and wanted to apologize for using mean language, but it wasn’t that big a deal.
On the other hand, it was clear that little progress was going to occur, so putting a stake through the heart of that thread and cutting its head off were probably in order. If we can avoid opening up another thread on that topic, maybe our guests will take their fight elsewhere.
Suddenly I was reminded of the old Star Trek episode “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield.”
Sarahfeena, sorry for picking on you when you’re sleep deprived.
As noted, it was an attempt at humor regarding my seeing one more trainwreck initiated in GD, particularly on a topic that I suspect has been done to death and which the more recent participants appear to be incapable of discussing without rancor. No one is in trouble.
(I’ll bet I don’t win any jackboot points for this thread, either.)
I am not sure I agree with this. I opened a thread that was going fine and then certain people decided to go off topic and turn it into a personal attack. I requested it be closed and it was. I can see it not being closed because of different opinions but when it becomes a free for all for snarkiness, keeping it opened is pointless.
Uh…that part about hating me was a joke. At least on my part, and I think on Frank’s as well.
Sorry about that, Hentor…I didn’t mean for it to be awkward for you. I was just looking for a good time to jump in and say “ok, so this was not what my pitting was supposed to be, let’s put it out of its misery.” And I agree with you that progress was not to be had.
Thanks, Tom. I can certainly understand why you would not want such a thread, and in retrospect, I’m sorry I suggested it.
Well, OK, but for the record (and in case you don’t feel like wading through that trainwreck), the thread didn’t go bad on me, it just went bad. I think only 2 posts in the entire thread actually addressed the subject of my OP. And as far as being engaged in discussion, that’s not exactly what I’d call it. So, I thought that it was fair to request that it be closed, and have people open a new thread that was actually meant to be on that subject.
It seems like I can remember seeing threads where it turned on the op and they asked for it to be closed only to hear “request denied”. Usually good for a few laughs.
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Maybe they like you? Or maybe the people attacking you clearly had drug problems?
I know for sure that they’ve refused closures before. The one that pops immediately into my head was a seemingly innocuous one in IMHO or MPSIMS where the OP asked for the “most universally accepted food”, ie the food that’s likely to turn off the least number of people. OP got pissy when people refused to abide by her “no meat” and some other rules and asked for the thread to be closed but was refused, IIRC. Can’t find it now. There’s been others in the Pit though, for sure.
No kidding.
You are definitely right…I wasn’t thinking about those kinds of situations, though…more just similar ones to this where it was just so off-topic or the subject was so beaten to death that there was just no point to it.
Also note that **Tom **didn’t give any indication that he was moderating, and so I would assume he was acting as a poster. But it probably would be a good idea for the mods not to joke about their moderating duties, as it can be disconcerting.
It goes to the fluffy bunny slippers points though.
You could take skip’s crown as the most twee mod at this rate.
