Who cares? Mayweather is a boring fighter to watch. The Manny - Pacman fight was so hyped but in reality it was a snooze. He’s unbeaten because he only fights opponents he knows he can beat (like Pacman past his prime) and his defensive style is very very strong. Great for him but boring for the audience. If boxing wants to attract new punters they need to change up the rules, like maybe making champions be forced to defend their titles or lose them every three months or so, and have to fight whoever beats certain qualifier rounds.
But yes if it does happen it will be entirely on Mayweathers terms to give him the best advantage possible… eg straight boxing.
I think this event is a circus. McGregor would be silly to go into a boxing match with Floyd, Mayweather would be reckless to do anything other than box against McGregor. At the risk of looking rather silly I think a bout of boxing is most likely with a resulting easy victory for Mayweather; victory by decapitation in Rd 1, 2 or 3.
On second thoughts if any boxing rules are likely to change for this event it will be length of rounds. I can see 5 min rounds being introduced for this fight. In that case Rd 1 or 2 will be enough for Floyd imo.
Floyd won’t do anything but a boxing match. McGregor will do anything for the money.
Mayweather would be crazy to agree to anything but a boxing match, and he isn’t crazy.
I’ll believe it when I see it - as mentioned, Mayweather isn’t going to fight anyone with a chance. I hope it does come off under MMA rules, and that Mayweather is humiliated, but that’s what I hope rather than what I expect.

It’s a fight that would make a mockery of both sports at once! That’s some feat given the lows both sports have fallen to.
McGregor has less than a puncher’s chance against Mayweather in a boxing match, which is to say that he has no chance at all. Like him or not, Mayweather is one of the best boxers of all time (suggesting that he only fights non-prime opponents is not accurate). He could fight McGregor and make it last 12 rounds just to put on a show but he would never, ever be in danger of losing.
Now let’s say that they make it an MMA fight. Likely that Mayweather losses but I think he has a better chance then McGregor does in a boxing match. Caveat being that Mayweather isn’t a big puncher and once it gets to the ground it’s all over for him.
I really hope this fight never, ever happens.
Maybe that was true in the past but in the last five years it’s pretty accurate.
Mayweather is a defensive fighter who is also past his prime. MacGregor is tough and used to getting hit with fists that don’t have fluffy pillows attached to them. I can’t see a MacGregor victory but there will be no decapitation. Mayweather will be careful and methodical and win on points.
I think it will be a knockout. McGregor isn’t used to being hit with a gloved fist as much as he would be if he boxed Mayweather.
I still hope it comes off as MMA and Mayweather comes out with at least one elbow dislocated, but I doubt it will actually happen. At least not for another six months of Mayweather posturing and trash talking and trying to get the other camp to jump thru hoops.
No doubt my perspective is affected by the fact that I despise Mayweather’s intestines.

He’s avoided the top competition throughout his career. He took on opponents moving up in weight or past their prime whenever possible. They weren’t all tomato cans, but his toughest fights were against unexpectedly good competition like Marcos Maidana and Jose Castillo. I’m not going disrespect his boxing ability, he could have taken on the best out there in their prime and still won. I don’t respect him as a competitor though.
Well, he’s crazy about beating up women.
This reminds me of the bizarre match between Muhammad Ali and a Japanese wrestler in the 70s.
That was ridiculous, basically using the so called rules of professional wrestling mixed with the rules of boxing. Inokia spent almost the entire match on his back on the canvas so Ali couldn’t hit him, and Ali never strayed away from the ropes because the ref would have to break them up if Inoki ever got hold of Ali while he was holding the ropes. This match will have to follow one set of rules, either boxing or MMA (and Floyd won’t do MMA, he ain’t that stupid).
