Re: Sarah Palin - Is it really about divorce?

I noticed she made a point of saying she asked her children to support her, but not her husband.
And she hugged her replacement Lt. Governor, but not her husband.
Maybe she knows that divorce would be the end of her career anyway and she’s just tired of having her “happy” life in a fishbowl, much less a divorce.

I seriously doubt it. She basically told us why she’s quitting politics. More or less, it’s because she can’t handle the stress.

Great Debates thread is [thread=523272]here[/thread], where the speculation is going thick and fast. Join in!

I strongly suspect the “real” reasons will come out over the next few work days. None of the likely motivations are fully consistent with her resignation, her statement, the timing of her statement, and her reported tone of voice and body language during her statement, and who was and was not with her when she made her statement. I don’t think any of the unlikely motivations are consistent either.

Until we have more information about this, or further statements from the Palins, I think that assuming Gov. Palin’s actions were governed by a consistent rational process is a losing proposition. The situation does not make sense IMO, because the decision was not made sensibly given the current public information. Either Gov. Palin knows something she did not reference, or she leaped without looking. Or both. Or neither. It’s hard to tell with her.

I have absolutely no inside knowledge as to what drives Sarah Palin.

But IF she has Presidential ambitions, she was very foolish to resign. In my opinion, her only chance for a comeback lay in doing a good job as governor and building a track record of accomplishment. She can’t do that now. And she mount a successful run for higher office as a mere celebrity without a portfolio of accomplishments.

Since the discussion – not debate – of this is happening in Great Debates (see Typo Knig’s link), I’m gonna shoo y’all off thither and lock this.

Several people have pointed out that not all MPSIMSers want to go into Great Debates, even for a juicy topic like this, so I’m reopening this thread.

I heard talk on CNN and MSNBC that there maybe another investigation of some sort that will be revealed in the next coupla weeks.

I think it’s entirely possible that “stressful” and “marriage falling apart” could go hand in hand. However, I’ve seen no reports that indicate they’re in any trouble as a couple.

I think it was too much too soon for her… she became so big overnight and wasn’t a career politician before it. She went from 0 to 60 in 2.2 seconds flat and couldn’t handle that speed. She crashed and burned. Okay, enough car metaphor…

At least it gives us a break from the basketball metaphors.

Well aside from the Big, Bad Media People being a bunch of meanies, she can accept money from whoever she wants, and make enough of it for a lifetime supply of hair spray if she’s not in office.

Those basketball metaphors were hilarious. About a sentence (sentencish) in, I had no idea what the hell she was talking about. Then she said something about the troops, and I stopped paying attention.

Please please please please I hope to god she’s got a sex tape. She’s one of the best MILF’s out there!!!

Here’s to hope!!!

She does, and I ain’t sharin’.

Nuts.

She’s still going to be foxy in 2012 and as such she’ll get another clean shot at the appearance-focused right. If she says she quit the governor job to strengthen her family ties, she’ll nail the bible belt. And if she puts her spare time to good use and learns to polish her speech as well as she does her nails then she won’t be so easy to humiliate in debates & interviews.

The only thing out of her control will be whether or not The Obamalama can effect undeniable improvements in the US economy and foreign policy. He won’t be able to because his problems right now are too big. She can hit the campaign trail doing what she does best: Looking good and pointing out shortcomings–of course, she’ll have no more answers than McCain did but she’s not playing defense this year and the shot clock is ticking fast for the Republican Party–Only a 3-pointer will keep them in the game and she’s got the ball.

It’s a good thing that in 2012 she won’t have a family anymore, and all of the TeeVee people will stop being mean.

Yeah, I’d like to see that.

Anyone the Republicans will nominate will nail the Bible Belt - assuming that he’s not wearing a dress, of course. They need to worry more about Ohio. Hell, they have to worry about Virgina. She can speak just fine, given a script. The thinking on her feet part seems to be beyond her. The fractured syntax comes from not enough bandwidth to think about both the question and how to phrase a response. When you are cutting and pasting memorized sound bites, grammar tends to suffer.

You seem to think she has the nomination locked up. The first thing she needs to worry about - assuming she is running - is her fellow Republicans, some of whom will be hiring people who worked on the McCain campaign and who saw first hand her weaknesses. If the economy is good, Obama wins. If the economy is bad, why would the Republicans nominate someone who walked away from the first sign of trouble in her state? Could she even stand up to a two year campaign that is going to get nasty? Not without a personality transplant, it seems.

This is probably just me being cynical, but I think your question is too critical. The question is: “Why would the Republicans nominate SP?” And the answer is, “She could win under the right circumstances and with the proper handling.” Once she gets in office, who cares? The cabinet that the party assigns her to nominate will run things just like last time. The Party just wants the chair, doesn’t really matter who keeps it warm.
