I feel very cheap and cheesy asking you guys to help me out on this one, but my paranoia has gotten the best of me.
Have any of you read the Dave Barry article where he describes the bizarre things he saw on the shirts of Japanese girls who thought it looked pretty, suck as “Fuck You” to a graduation ceremony, etc.?
Well, I have this tank top with Oriental writing on it and I am AFRAID of wearing it 'till I know what it says. As far as I know, it could say “I am a hooker, treat me as such” or, “Mug me, PLEASE!”.
Here is the url of the design (don’t you love scanners?).
While I was beng a smart alec, I did make a good faith effort, first, extracting the url and pasting it into a new window in my browser. I got the same result then and with your link, Manny.
That second link worked for me, but I had jiggered around with the url before, so maybe the image is in my cache somewhere (which I can’t control, being at work and all.)
My Chinese friend just told me something about how it would not really be original Chinese as the soul would be like after dead. Anyway, it is not offensive or anything, maybe just a bit clumsy. I think it was meant to mean something like Chinese spirit (or maybe they meant culture or something like that). The dragon is the symbol of the Chinese people. It is a benevolent creature unlike western dragons.
I do not know why the board is messing up the link but I poted it here and let’s see if this link works.
These characters are very stylized, some strokes are even omitted. The first character is “ron” which means “dragon.” The second character is “kon” which means “soul, spirit.” So together it means “dragon spirit” which doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot unless you know that “ron” is very commonly used as a symbol of good luck.
I don’t see any evil meanings here, but then, I wouldn’t tattoo it on my arm either.
I asked for something similar, but I didn’t get it.
I work with a girl from Tamil Nadu, and (while she was back in India for a few weeks), I asked her if she would do something similar for me–bring me back a t-shirt written in Tamil that actually said something offensive.
Alas, she was much to proper a lady (seriously) to stoop to something low like that.
