I’m an admin for a small network running Exchange 2003. I have a problem with a lost email that was sent to the wrong address. Is there any way for me as the administrator to use the exchange server to retrieve or read the email from the server? Is there an easy way to pull up any users email from the server? I played with the System Manager all morning but couldn’t get more info than when and to whom the email was delivered.
If you know the mailbox to which the message was actually delivered, why not simply open that mailbox in Outlook and look for the message?
Because I would either need the users current password (which I do not have) or I would have to reset it which would alert the person that I have read his email. It is a sensitive situation and I don’t want to tip my hand until I give upper management a copy of everything.
If you have administrator rights, you should be able to change the permissions on the mailbox to allow your user (or all admins) to access it.
Exactly. I can open anyone’s mailbox without needing to know their password.
Understood, I tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks guys!
However, as an admin, to open another mailbox, you have to have Send as… Receive as… permission. By default, the Admins do not. This is different from 5.5.
Once you have the permission, just use Outlook to open another user’s mailbox.
