Ding ding ding ding! RedFury hit the Real Dopers (who) Don’t Read Trifecta!
It’s not just that (1.) he didn’t read the thread he’s replying to (in which various casualty counts were already discussed in this post, this post, this post, this post, and this post). I’ve already learned that that’s way to much to expect of people. Threads get long, I understand. I skim too. (Even though this was only a half-page thread at the time.
It’s not even that (2.) he didn’t read the post he’s replying to (in which I point out that I’m not a Bush apologist but am interested in human rights abuse. I’m actually a Kerry-voting, aclu- and dccc-donating liberal democrat).
It’s that - for the love of the sweet baby Jesus- *(3.) he didn’t even bother to read the whole sentence * he’s replying to. In fact I have to thank him for helpfully bolding the parts of my sentence that he actually did read so I could understand the full scale and exact locus of the ignorance from which he was speaking (or the ass out of which he was talking). Redfury, if you’d taken the time to read the whole sentence you quoted then you’d have ferretted out that I was talking about “most people’s count” (i.e. the evidence available) which I DO know for a fact.
OK, so I’m just another loser getting bent out of shape about a stupid GD post. Yes. And it’s terminally crass to pit somebody over debating style given the subject matter (body counts and atrocities). I pit myself for that. I pit myself above all for that. I concede it’s a lot worse.
But without bringing other posts and posters into it, I submit this previous complaint of mine as evidence that this is an ongoing repetitive thorn in my side. Frankly I’m beginning to see people’s inability to read as another sign of the inevitable downfall of civilization. Especially when it gets this bad. When you’re not reading the single sentence you’re quoting - that you’re *refuting * - that you’re calling *“b.s.” * - it’s too much. Of course we’re launching bloody senseless wars and killing each other by the thousands - our communications skills are shit.
OK, I’m done. I’ve said it, and I’m not even mad any more. Move along.
