Yeah, I know the title is wrong. (It should be the Rules Real Road World Challenge ). Anyway, just wondering if anyone thinks Coral’s dramatic performance at the end was real or not?
I definitely think she was hyperventilating and unable to breathe; the way she was grasping at the EMTs or whatever seemed real enough to me. Whether or not that was the result of an allergic reaction or simply her physical exhaustion, I don’t know. I do think she bullied her way into the final team and the RW team should have dumped her and taken the ten-minute penalty at the beginning of the final challenge. They could have easily made up the time, as the RR team had more people to deal with who were overall in worse shape than RW.
I find it odd that a spider bit her, on what appeared to be the foot (at least in one scene), yet she did seem to be in quite the physical dilemma.
All in all, I can’t really say one way or the other.
From what I’ve read on other boards (Television Without Pity), she not only had trouble breathing but actually stopped breathing and had to be revived in the ER.
From what I saw, she definitely seemed to be in respiratory distress and unless I was hearing things, one of the EMTs said “She’s stopped breathing” while she was still lying on the ground.
Frightening thing to watch either way.
I think it’s ambiguous, based on the editing. “She’s stopped breathing” was a voice-over, no talking face with moving lips. It could have been dubbed in after the fact to tell a story. I haven’t seen the TWOP post, but it might just be reiterating the voice-over, not adding new information.
I noticed the camera “fainted”, but never Coral faint. She just slowly lay down.
I think it’s possible that the “respiratory distress” could have been an act to cover her embarassment. Also, she only mentioned spider bite after being prompted about allergies. An on-the-spot diagnosis of allergic reaction by a non-physician may have been wrong.
Also, where’s the footage of Coral in the hospital with visiting teammates after the competition? If it were real, I would imagine there’d be a few golden moments they’d want to show.
I do agree that had they dumped Coral early, they could’ve made up the time. Also, the Road Rules girls might have quit if they fell behind by a perceived large margin.
I also wish we’d seen something of the other teams learning of Coral’s condition, especially after Nathan’s ranting (which was understandable but as Alton, I believe, said, why dwell on the what-ifs at the end of the race) at the finish line. I guess we’re just going to have to wait for The Inferno to get some possible resolution and reaction; yep, Mike and Coral are back again!
