One nice thing about San Francisco years ago…
Note: SF is largely fill in the east and sand in the west - both tricky if you want to dig a hole, which explains the
Underground Erection Company.
Yes, they got tired of the snickers and changed it to Underground Construction. Spoil sports.
And who can froget the landmark store across the street from the bus terminal:
Terminal Drugs.
SF has lost a number of the things which made it SF. sigh…
I wonder exactly where they are doing the hair cutting, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
When I went to Tanzania on a world challenge there was a shop called the willy shop. I really have to dig that photo out…
There’s a construction company here called Construction Longer. Yes, I guess it’s the owner’s name or something, but somehow it doesn’t entice me into doing business with them.
Hey, they could have gone old-style and called the company “Erection Longer”. I’d pay to see that sign…
I once drove past a little shopping strip outside LA where there were two signs, in the same standard strip-mall font and size, next to each other:
MEXICAN FOOD CLEANERS
This is, or was, a trucking company in Pontiac, Michigan called F & K Trucking
And a gas station/party store ( convenience store to the rest of you non michigan peeps) called S & M Market
Bushwackers is a barber shop over in Waterford. I giggle every time I drive past it.
A hint to the owners of the business. If your name is Butte. And you start an oxygen equipment delivery business. Don’t paint on your vans in big letters: BUTTE THERAPY. 'Cause people watching traffic and only seeing your van out of the corners of their eyes won’t be picking up that E.
Also, who names their grave marker business OK MONUMENTS? Is OK Monuments where you go when Uncle George didn’t leave nearly as much as you expected him to?
There is a Number One Chinese Restaurant in Warren, MI
And ** Takee Outee #1 Chinese Restaurant** in West Bloomfield ( I may be misremembering parts of it, but it was funny.
In Mid MIchigan there is a an excavation company called Gay Excavation: We love to play in the mud. I swear to god. My friend tore it out of the paper to show me.
Last February at a little strip mall near us there was:
REPTILE CITY Valentine’s Day Specials!
(Of course the second sign was for the flower shop next door, but that’s boring.)
Here in the Netherlands there is a chain of shops called Sissy-Boy. Link to their site, but WARNING: sound.
Back in my home city, the main road into town is highway 69, and there’s a mall called Plaza 69 on it. This florist has a shop in Plaza 69. I never really thought anything of it until I mentioned it to some out-of-towners.
I submit Big Ass Fans Company
EDIT: Oops! Not stores after all.
There’s a restaurant in Arcadia called Young Dong Garden.
Hmm…
My husband’s favourite shop in town is a dog training business called Sit Happens. His second favourite is a dog grooming place called Doggy Style.
On I75 there is a park called Big Bone Lick State Park. I tried to get a tee shirt from there. 16 mile road outside Detroit is called Big Beaver.
Just a wee bit east of Big Bone Lick lies Beaver Lick.
Are they anywhere near French Lick?
I spent a couple of summers in North Carolina and used to regularly drive by a sign for the Hemlock Nursing Home. At least they were upfront about it.
I also kind of liked Clampet Hardware.
