What are your favorite names of small businesses?

There’s a place in smalltown Alabama called

Cold Beaver Tire & Auto

It got it’s name when that was still the name of the little community and before, I’m guessing, beaver had as many connotations.

When I lived near Macon, Georgia (Maconga in local speak) there was a tiny garage called

The Love of Jesus Christ Body Shop

It was right out of Flannery O’Connor (and in fact the movie of her book Wise Blood was filmed in that city). It’s logo was a cross and a car.

Birmingham, AL used to have a bar called

Miss Martha’s Beauty Shop & Chain Saw Repair

I liked the name but unfortunately it was tongue in cheek; I much prefer the earnest ones.

Can you think of any names of small businesses that make you look twice or want to take a picture?

A hair salon: Curl Up and Dye

A steakhouse: The Spunky Steer

Another one…

A photocopy joint ~ Clone Reproduction Center

A friend reminded me of the strip joint outside Albany Georgia-

The Booby Trap (much nicer than its seedier cheaper competition The Clap Trap).

The Great Alaskan Bush Company - a strip joint in Anchorage

Mr. Whitekeys Fly-By-Nightclub - a joint in Spenard (now sadly closed.)

A big and tall men’s clothing store: The High and the Mighty.

The Library Bar, which is located just down High Street in Columbus, OH from THE Ohio State University.

Mom calls from home to check up her precious child at tOSU: “What did you do last night?”
Precious Child: “You’d have been proud of me, Mom. I went to the Library.”

This company from my area that sells vinyl (and other) floorings.

Lino Ritchie

There were a couple of dog-oriented businesses in town that we liked the names of - one was Sit Happens (dog training) and the other was Doggie Style (dog grooming).

Holy Sheet, sells well sheets

Unlimited Head, this company polishes heads on cars

Suck and Blow, turbos and exhausts!

Ok, where did Curl Up and Dye come from? I came in to post that, but I have no idea why I know that name!

Wreck-a-mended - an auto repair shop in Rainsville, AL

A decade and a half ago, Davis CA had a video arcade called The Library. The kids loved the name.

I like the names with originality, or the ones that are related to their location.
e.g. around my neighbourhood:

Goat Hill Tavern (dive bar with many many different beers on tap) - in a small spot that used to be called Goat Hill

The Headless Woman (don’t know if it’s still around: their sign was an old-fashioned waitress type woman without a head - not gory. it was a small diner)

The Place Across the Street from the Hotel Laguna (that one’s gone, it was a small bar across the street from a better-known landmar, the Hotel Laguna)

Forgot one:
Gods & Heroes - local hair salon.

**Sneed’s Feed & Seed (formerly Chuck’s)

(hey you didn’t say that had to be REAL businesses!)
**

Vietnamese restaurant:

Hung Long

It was just the dudes name.

A strip club, in Wisconsin Dells, right off the side of the freeway.
Crusin Chubbys

the Low End ,a bass guitar shop in Murfreesboro, TN.

Gonna brave it out and post before I check, but…

I think from the movie Grease.

<runs off to check>

The joke has also likely been around so long that it’s public domain by now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Google doesn’t give me a link, but I do believe I was right, wahoo!!

Also…

“Hoosier Buddy Liquor Store”

Bloomington, Indiana

Drive through booze; gotta love it!
