An observation and a rant brought about by the finale of Married by America:
First, the observation: there’ve been a half-dozen or so reality shows that promise to match people up and lead them to happily-ever-after married bliss–3 Bachelor/Bachelorettes, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, Joe Millionaire, Married by America, and probably something so cheezy that I’ve forgotten it. And the number of successful matches so far: …hmmm, lessee, carry the two… zero. Not a great track record, and doesn’t bode well for the ones that are coming up (like Mr. Personality).
Second: what happened in Married by America is just downright offensive. Two people who probably wouldn’t, in real life, have gotten a second date with their potential mates wind up getting jilted literally at the altar–the relationship extended beyond it’s normal life, by the possibility of cashing in. One of the participants in particular (Billie Jeanne) was very very hurt–it was painful to watch. Fox has no right to screw with people’s lives like that.
I’m so disgusted I may actually stop watching.
