Not much of a reality show viewer, but I’d kill to see this
OHHHHHHHHHHH me too
Maybe my life is to damn boring…all that wake up the child, make the lunches, go to work, come home, make dinner, watch shit on tv…shit
Bring on others peoples shit
Short-arsed little hobbit. I think this thread is in danger of a re-hijack, by the way: we could be silly for a while until it got sent to MPSIMS, and then start slagging each other off until it was bounced into the Pit. Let’s tour all the forums.
I just got an email from DirecTV today informing me that starting June 1st we’ll have the reality channel.
I have never been to New Zealand but would like to one day. I hope this qualifies me to post on Reality TV Shows!
I like the ones that have a true competitive nature. I see these shows as a quasi-sports program that I can enjoy with my wife.
The only two I really like are Survivor and The Amazing Race (though TAR tries to play up emotion a bit much). Survivor really reminds me of Battle of the Network stars, mixed with mindgames. TAR is the only show where your performance SOLELY dictates YOUR outcome (well…yields and all).
I don’t like purely subjective shows or “romance” shows. The idea of watching the less attractive brother of The Fat Kid from “Stand By Me” find “true love” is unbearable.
I also don’t like any of the shows that trade off canned emotions or tv love. I just don’t buy it. You can tell when someone is playing to the camera and I find that insulting to my intelligence.
However, when there is genuine emotion (and you can tell) it proves to be great TV.
i’ll like to see someone answer this. i’ve only watched survivor and the amazing race so i don’t get it.
I loved the Kiwi-fest but thank you shijinn, I can’t see what the hate over reality tv is about.
It’s tv. Most tv is fairly stupid and most of us watch it anyway. What makes the umpteenth version of CSI or Law and Order superior to “reality”?
In CSI/Law and Order someone is horribly murdered and we know by the end of the hour that our heroes will know who did it, usually we will know long before they do and we can snooze for the middle 20 minutes. Many varied versions of death don’t seem to change the formula.
In doctor shows someone will have a mystery illness and JUST before they die the doctor hero will find the cure Or someone will have a tragic illness/accident that will prompt our hero doctor to discover their tragic family/personal issues and hero doctor will come to the rescue and fix all OR a patient we know bugger all about will be unsavable but the death will highlight some aspect of the docs life that we should really care about.
In sitcoms, someone will do or say something stupid in the first few lines. The characters will dance around it without directly touching it until the last moment. In the last 5 minutes the first stupid thing becomes the punchline to a really stupid joke.
In reality tv, we know that people will be made to look bad. They don’t have a script but the producers do. They will have bitch fights, or fuck up and every now and then do something good. The moments are hand picked and I am sure almost everyone who ever was on “reality” tv went home and said “OHHHHHHHH it wasn’t like that”. They are portrayed very deliberately I’m sure.
I just like “peoples” lines more then I like script writers it seems. I like hissy fits on tv
