But, but, it’s a really good video!
Even knowing how it was done, Virtual Insanity is always a trip to watch.
OK Go does a lot of simple but memorable videos:
Here It Goes Again
Do What You Want
Do What You Want (wallpaper version)
And the thread wouldn’t be complete without No More Kings’ Sweep The Leg. Directed by William Zabka. If you liked Karate Kid at all, this is a great, great video.
Love him or hate him Marilyn Manson made one of the most emotionally powerful music videos based off a famous short story (The Lottery, I believe).
Marilyn Manson - The Man That You Fear
NIN - Closer , also a classic.
Björk’s had some really good ones: [ul][]It’s Oh So Quiet[]Human Behaviour[]Bachelorette[]Hyperballad[*]I Miss You[/ul]
I don’t really love her music, but Bjork’s new video is amazing. I kinda wanna get the 3d glasses…
I am fascinated by Jack Johnson’s Sitting, Waiting, Wishing. And there’s a “making of” video here.
WARNING! This will crash Firefox! I’m running the latest version and I tried three times just to be sure. Crashes every time.
Lordi’s Blood Red Sandman is a nice little treat for all the Evil Dead fans out there.
ETA: If you haven’t seen the video for Frontier Psychiatrist, it’s worth watching.
Oh yessshhh. Oh very much yesh. Plus “The Perfect Drug” make me want to howl at the moon and do terribly kinky and horrible things to Mr. Reznor.
Band of Horses - Is There a Ghost - Pillow thief girl rules.
Afro Celt Sound System - Persistence of Memory - I want to visit every single place in this video before I die. Cool stuff.
Bongwater - Jimmy/Lesbians of Russia - A really good friendship of mine started because of a mutual love for this video. Long story.
Rilo Kiley - It’s a Hit - Neat little video that tells a neat little story. Also, the unipines are adorable.
I have a couple hundred gigs of music videos on my computer, so I’m sure I’ll come across more later.
That’s the one I came in here to mention.
I also like Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
Chris Deburgh’s Don’t Pay the Ferryman.
Oh, damn–missed the edit window before I remembered one that I’m surprised no one posted yet: Jeremy, by Pearl Jam.
I love that song. LOVE that song. But that video grosses me out. It’s the anti-sexy.
Oh, almost forgot: Dinosaur Jr. - Feel the Pain - The golfing in the city video. That one never gets old.
Agreed. Absolutely priceless - best video I’ve seen in ages. (Of course, I don’t see a lot of videos, but still…)
Just as an example of music videos that I hate - I absolutely despise videos that are just endless shots of the damn band. The band should take a backseat to the other visuals in a music video. A big backseat. They should be in the trunk. The best videos are ones that tell a cryptic story with lots of interesting cinematics, not shots of the band rocking out over and over again.
And Star Guitar.
Does it change any? Because I was fairly bored by about 1:45 and turned it off–I mean the very first part was funny, does it get better again or is it just more of the same of what’s in the middle?
You didn’t even get to the part with the unicorn, let alone Col. Wilma Deering from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.
