Really, Twickster?

Oh,come on. Pull up your big boy pants and report it. Then you can continue your rant when you don’t get satisfaction.

I’ve reported Dmark’s post with this as the reason: “The question is about Henry’s opinion, not DMark’s.”

I just reported your post. Mods don’t get to taunt/insult posters.

Sheesh. Give it up, Oakminster. You trot this out every time you have an issue with modding. It’s not true, and it’s really past tiresome at this point.

If you really believe this to be true, what’s the point of even posting yet another complaint?

I agree with Oakminster that they were two threads that were offering personal opinions about Jane Fonda. If one of them was moderated, they both should have been.

It may have been an issue of when they were posted. (The second post appears to have been posted while the moderating post was written.) But once the moderating note was posted, it should have been edited to also address that second post or a second moderating note should have been posted.

Everybody but you, that is–everybody who knows how to read a time stamp.

That’s not why. You’re acting ridiculous and should stop.

I’m sure you meant “two posts” not “two threads.”

You may be correct about the moderation. I gave my rational about the time stamps.

Tune in in the morning for further updates on this crisis.

I’m not going to get ANY sleep at all tonight!!!

Thanks, Straight Dope!!!

I don’t give a damn if you like it or not. When I have an issue, I will raise it in this very forum, as the rules require. And past complaints have had some positive effect on more reasonable mods.

DMark did address Oakminster’s point, which he probably shouldn’t have, but at least he then tried to steer it back to the original topic. I’ve found that posts like that tend to go over better than one liners.

And, if you assume the propriety of moderating a hijack before it happens, twickster’s post makes perfect sense. If you allow personal opinions, this is clearly a highly contentious topic that very quickly would get political, thus being more fit for Great Debates than for Cafe Society.

This would not be true in general, hence why such moderation is usually not performed. My personal opinion on Tom Cruise, for example, is hardly likely to start a hijack. But “Hanoi Jane,” as he called her, clearly is a political figure.

Removed this post, decided not to go there.

They most certainly do not. Do you seriously not know that you are supposed to contact the moderator in question first before posting a rant about their decision in ATMB? Do you also not know that they would prefer you not post any rants in ATMB and are less likely to grant your request if you do?

The only thing such rants accomplish is catharsis. For you because you get it out, and for them because they can make snarky comments.

You’re correct.

Regardless of the rationale, what we ended up with was this situation:

Now regardless of whether you feel personal opinions were right or wrong, you have to concede this moderation was unbalanced. Either both posts should have been allowed or neither.

Oh here we go again. How many times is this now?

If I were you I’d bookmark this as an example of your qualifications on your very next application to be a mod here. Excellent work, rookie.

Oakminster, I agree with your opinion about Jane Fonda. AI can barely stand to see a movie with her in it, my dislike is so strong.

But you were wrong in the other thread. It WAS about Henry’s feeling towards his daughter’s activities, not about what they SHOULD be.

Give it up and admit you were out of line. You aren’t going to get things changed by this thread, not if those who agree with your feeling about Jane are agreeing with the mod. You are coming off as a spoiled child.

I do not believe that’s true. They don’t want you to debate a mod action in the thread in question but rather PM them or start a thread here in ATMB. Whatever issues there with his point of view, I don’t think Oakminster’s problem here is a breech of etiquette.

You’re right, Oakie, DMark deserved a mod note for the first paragraph of his response, though the second paragraph was on topic.

If I had noticed his post last night, I would have written the note then, but he posted while I was composing my note to you. I then logged off for the night without reviewing the thread in its entirety, so I didn’t see his post at the time.

I have written him a mod note this morning.

Thanks twickster.

You were right in giving Oakminster a mod note. You were right in giving one to DMark. I think this is a fine example of board moderation, and one of the reason this board is great.

I would also agree with samclem’s opinion of Oak and his big boy pants.

Careful. If you get any more effusive, you’re going to be brownjacketcoder.
