Anyone else playing this? It’s a free arcade-style MMO, basically what World of Warcraft might have been if it was native to the Atari 2600. Very crude graphics, very fast to get into, and although you can pay money for some upgrades, it feels like a complete game as-is to me. (The main benefit to spending real money is extra character slots, but I don’t feel constrained by having only one at a time).
The basic game is a top-down view shooter; you’re plopped down in a hostile world where everything except the other player characters is out to kill you. Most of the MMO staples are there - you have a variety of classes to choose from, including short-ranged heavily-armored tanks, ranged attackers, and healers, and you can group with small groups of players to go adventuring, or large groups to fight massive dangerous raid bosses. But it’s all very slimmed-down.
You are automatically grouped with any players near you, and gain xp any time someone near you kills something - it’s not possible to steal someone’s kill. You can automatically teleport to anyone in the same “realm” as you just by clicking on their dot on the minimap and clicking on their name. It’s very easy to get started - just jump in, shoot anything that shows up as a red dot on the minimap, and once you find another player who looks like he knows where he’s going, follow and help out.
Unusually for an MMO, if your character dies he is dead; no resurrection, time to start a new one. I don’t find this all that frustrating because it only takes about 45 minutes of play to get a character to maximum level (although you’ll be pretty under-geared at that point). Anyway, it’s good quick fun.
(There’s a flash version of the game, or you can download a free client through Steam - I recommend using the client as the flash version can be a bit jerky, though I also play the client version on a much faster computer).
