Just to start things off, I’ve never had virus or spyware problems before.
There are two computer “problems” that I have noticed before. Both of which have continued far longer than I anticipated, no one seems interested in fixing them.
- Icons for favorites. (These can be seen in your internet favorites folder or maybe even in your favorites “toolbar” at the top of your internet browser.) Over the years, I have noticed that the little icon for each favorites link is frequently wrong. I have experienced this in Opera, IE, and Firefox using multiple computers. The CNN link will have the Scottrade icon, Flickr will have the Straight Dope icon, and Slashdot’s icon is blank! Sometimes after clearing the history or restarting the browser, they will usually get corrected until sometime next week…
I figured this was a bug in some browsers, and that it would eventually get fixed. However, I have gone through multiple browsers and through multiple versions, and it still occurs. It seems to work better now that before, but still happens every so often. What is the problem here, and why can it not be fixed?
- Loading CDs. My computer at home does not have this problem, but many of the computers at my work do (even stand alone computers that are not on a network).
When loading a CD, especially one with a decent amount of data on it, the whole computer will freeze. I can still move my mouse, but if I want to double click (for example) “internet explorer”, it will just show a blank window for a while. I can tell the whole computer is reading and “processing” the CD, but for goodness sakes, this machine is supposed to perform billions of calculations a second! Does inserting a CD really have to grind my computer to a halt for 10-15 seconds!? Once again, I have observed this in multiple computers. Is this not unavoidable in this modern age of technology?
So, what is the deal with these two problems?
