I am looking for actors for a new production of the movie, not “she/he/they would have been great back then” suggestions, please.
Neil Patrick Harris as Frank seems like an obvious choice after Hedwig. No idea how he’d do with the role, but I think he should, at the very least, be auditioning.
In 2016 we had The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again It had Victoria Justice as * Janet Weiss
Tim Curry returned, but now as * The Criminologist - An Expert
It wasn’t great.
For a new production:
For Janet: I’ll start with a young actress and singer. Under 28 years old I think.
I suggest either Sabrina Carpenter or Emilia Jones. (Lock & Key and CODA). Just a hair older is Dove Cameron.
I’ll agree with NPH as Frank-N-Furter
Brad Majors: Maybe Jack Quaid
Benedict Cumberbatch for The Criminologist, why not.
Jared Leto for Riff Raff?
Is Jack Black young enough for Eddie?
Magenta: Amanda Seyfried
Columbia: Alison Brie as a redhead?
I can see him, all prim and proper, jumping up on the table and doing “The Time Warp”.
Not sure about any of the other characters, but I’d like to see these folks:
Frank N. Further - Jim Rash
Brad - Topher Grace
Janet - Natasha Lyonne
Riff Raff - Steve Buscemi
The Criminologist - Patrick Warburton
Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Coleman as Riff Raff and Magenta.
I like Hiddleston for Riff Raff, better than my choice.
I still think Christopher Walken should bee the Criminologist.
I could see Lady Gaga as Magenta, but otherwise I’ve got nothing.
Given her voice, can she actually sing?
I really don’t know how well any of my suggested folks can sing. Not having seen anything recent with Topher Grace, I’m not even sure he hasn’t aged out of the role of Brad altogether. Lyonne certainly isn’t as young as I would assume Janet to be, but I think she could pull it off, and it would be interesting and fun to see her bring her unique “energy” to the character.
At 47, I don’t see him playing a character meant to be in their early 20s.
I like the suggestion of Sabrina Carpenter as Janet, though her public persona might be a little too corny for her to play a sexually repressed virgin.
Doja Cat as Columbia, maybe?
The second Janet could certainly sing.
I suggested him mainly because of the idle thought that some Eric Forman-osity would be workable for that character. But then again, regardless of how young he might reasonably be made to appear now, Grace has probably outgrown that Eric Forman demeanor.
Is Jack Black young enough for Eddie?
He’s 56 now, so probably not - but Caleb Johnson, who took over as the singer for Meat Loaf’s band after his death, could probably pull it off. At 34, he’s only a little older than Mr. Loaf was when the original was made.
No, he ain’t got it.
I still think Christopher Walken should bee the Criminologist.
And I would still pay folding money to see that.
OTOH, the last time we did this there was discussion of Eddie Izzard as Eddie, but I think that ship has sailed and now he’s ok as the criminologist.
I’ll say it again. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a fantastic movie. How it achieved that status is a mystery. It was a fluke. Fine actors, great music, but they never did it again. And never will. It was a one and done. A classic to be remembered, not one to be reprised.
Moderating
No need to threadshit the obvious, we all know that and this is just a for funs thread.
