Venus as a boy is a great song. Its use in The Professional was perfect.
You gotta get the Sugarcubes debut album, Life’s Too Good (1988).
I was lucky to see them live in 1988 (Georgetown University). The were smokin’ hot! Bjork blew me away; Super, super talented!
From what I’ve seen of it, yes, it does. (I don’t own it yet.) The show I saw was a little odd, because the orchestra was detained somehow (I’m not sure, exactly–it was explained in Italian) and didn’t arrive until the second half, so it was just Matmos and the harpist and the choir for the first half. I didn’t realize until I was talking to some folks afterwards that this wasn’t what was supposed to happen, and that the orchestra was supposed to be there for the whole show.
I wrote about it here:

Human Behaviour is my personal favorite. I also really dig that video.
I have that DVD and it is fantastic, I have seen Bjork live in San Francisco, but she was nowhere near as good that day as she was at the Royal Opera House.
I was a fan of Bjork in her early days, though I’m certain I would still be a fan today, I just haven’t gone out of my way to listen to her newest stuff. I love her, and her music - so you’ve just inspired me to head to the music store…
Anyway, my recommendations:
Isobel
Human Behaviour
Hyperballad
Army of Me
Bachelorette
Hunter
And my Dad’s personal favourite and recommendation:
**Venus As A Boy **
Been a fan since The Sugarcubes and that is what I instantly thought of, but the ethereal 7" Dream Mix is my favorite version of it.
I play Dead is absolutely gorgeous.
The Oakenfold remix of “Pagan Poetry” is one of the most beautiful things ever recorded. What a voice.
Wooah-- Oakenfold did a remix of Pagan Poetry? What CD is that on? Where can I find it!
There is an extended club-type remix of “Human Behaviour” floating around that is pretty good.
Actually, lookikng at the CD (Great Wall), it’s not an Oakenfold remix. My bad. Sorry.
Hyjack Question: is the video for “I play Dead” from an actual film? If so what is the name of the film (I couldn’t find it on imdb searching for Bjork)?
“I play dead” was indeed for a move, “The Young Americans”. I don’t particularly like that video so much, but there you go!
Like Sol Grundy, my favourite Bjork album is Post. The last five songs (Isobel, Possible Maybe, I Miss You, Cover Me, Headphones) are pure musical heaven in my mind. They were actually a lot of comfort to me when I was about 18 and feeling kind of isolated. I just remember sitting in my bedroom with those tracks on repeat. Although I have to say the one Bjork song that I thought was cute on the first listen but now find intensely annoying is also on the same album - It’s Oh So Quiet. Grrrrrrr!
Lobsang, definitely check out Pagan Poetry - a breathtaking song. And the video for All is Full of Love is amazing too - it’s all about robotic-Bjork love.
Recieved the best of CD in the post today. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet but the sleeve notes definately appealed to my weird-shit side! I am a fan of Salvador Dali (forget Picasso) and the drawings in the sleeve notes were… well… interesting.
I don’t like Medula at all (maybe it grows on one) but I will definately take into account all the tips in this thread so far.
