It’s been a few years since I was in the South Philadelphia or Passyunk neighborhoods (I hope I’m getting the names right…I remember a walkable older neighborhood with plenty of places to eat & drink) for a pub crawl, and I was being led around by locals and not paying much attention, so I don’t remember much. The drinks may have contributed to my disorientation too.
Anyway, I’ll be back in the area on Friday, meeting a friend who is also not from Philly, and would love to return to that area for dinner and drinks. I’m thinking $ or $$ with some good beers or cocktails, cozy, with tasty food for dinner, and then a dive bar or two afterwards. Must be within walking distance of Pat’s & Geno’s because, hey, we might forgo a proper meal and just do cheesesteaks.
South Philly Tap Room (SPTR), the Pub on Passyunk East (POPE) and The Devil’s Den all are good craft beer spots with decent food as well, and all are in the general neighborhood.
Replying belatedly to say thanks for all the suggestions. My friend and I ate at Tattooed Mom’s – bad idea. Then we drank bourbon at a dive bar or two a little further south on Passyunk – excellent idea. Then we walked a mile in the snow and ice to our respective lodgings, and all was well.
