Not really a Bluegrass fan, but sweet zombie jesus this guy can play. Where do I start?
Go back and start with this CD:
The David Grisman Quintet (released 1977) - Still a solid recording to this day and IMHO his best.
My favorite is Stephane Grappelli and David Grisman Live.
Stephane Grappelli, of course, played violin in the Quintet du Hot Club de France–while Django Reinhardt played guitar. Grappelli lived a very long life & played almost to the end. Here, he teams with Grisman & other young hotshots–playing gypsy jazz.
Grisman’s bluegrass is very fine–although he’s always pushed the boundaries. But this set is sublime.
Grisman, Garcia, Clements…amazing!
Cool, thanks for the recommendations.
Garcia/Grisman is wonderful - they did a series of albums together focusing on various themes, folk, jazz, etc.
I’ll second Stephane Grappelli and David Grisman Live, and add a vote for Tone Poems- the first one, by David Grisman and Tony Rice. I haven’t heard the others, but they’re supposed to be very good as well.
Is Grisman the one that plays the “Car Talk” theme?
