Recommend a home waxing product

And help me actually enjoy my vacation! (And life in general).

I’m going to be spending my Christmas vacation on a beach and have been thinking of waxing my legs and other stuff. I actually need to start making a habit of it – I haven’t felt really comfortable going bare-legged since puberty because of my hair growth (although the older I get, the less I give a crap about what other people think).
FWIW, here are some of the specific concerns I am dealing with:
[ul]
[li]I have very coarse (like a man’s whiskers coarse) very dark hair[/li][li]Sensitive, light, greasy olive skin (so I get the nice little dark dots all over my legs from shaving  ) [/li][li]The growth is pretty dense. 2 or 3 hairs appear to be growing from one follicle[/li][li]I have PCOS so regrowth is insanely fast[/li][li]Based on purely anecdotal evidence, it appears I have a very quick skin cell turnover rate. I get ingrowns at the drop of a hat. Shaving, waxing, going natural, it doesn’t matter. My skin heals very quickly, though.[/li][/ul]
This might sound dumb to some people but my leg hair has been a considerable source of anxiety for me for a long time. Because of the coarseness of the hair and my sensitive skin, I can only shave about once a week or I get bigtime razor burn. No shaving product I’ve used has really addressed the issue, and I’ve tried a LOT of products. I am at the point where I want to cause as much damage as possible to my leg follicles so at least it thins out. It’s quite frustrating.

I’ve used the Nair roll-on sugaring wax before and it didn’t quite do as well as I was expecting. Looking at drugstore.com it seems like Zip Wax is the best selling but Moom has the highest rating. Can anyone speak for either of these products or another one that would work well with my specific issues?

Have you tried Veet cream? Works really well for me, but I don’t have dense growth so YMMV. (I’ve tried their waxing strips as well, which also worked fine, but the cream is more or less painless.) They sell a formula for sensitive skin.

ETA: Emakemeup.com has some product reviews. Under Flower Report, click “View by Category” and go to “Bath and Body - Hair Removal.”

Oh, for your legs! :smack: I was gonna suggest Johnson’s Paste Wax, and see if anyone had a better favorite. I don’t think that will help your legs one bit. Sorry.

I have. I had an allergic reaction to it. Also, it got all over my hands and my fingernails started sloughing off! I should have added that chemical depilatories aren’t an option.

Thanks - I will check it out.

Mustache wax? Fortunately I have a removal procedure for that area so I don’t get an impressive Yosemite Sam 'stache. Thanks for the recommendation, though! :stuck_out_tongue:

IMHO anything above the knees should be done by a professional. Just because a good quick pull is important to make the experience as painfree as possible, and from the way your arms are attached to your body, getting a clean quick pull in some areas above the knees is all but impossible. Just one example: the back of your thigh.

Even if you decide to do your legs on your own, if you are considering a bikini wax to any degree I beg you to have it professionally done. Legs are expensive but basic bikini (no topiary effects or full brazillian) is much less expensive, and a worthy investment.

I’m not too worried about my bikini area - my suit doesn’t really come up that far enough to be an issue. I’ll remember that if it comes up though, thanks.

Have you had your legs waxed before? I have really thick hair too and my first time hurt like a mo-fo, and now I can do it myself without a thought. It gets thinner and less painful, I promise! If you’ve never had it done, please go to a salon for the first time. You won’t regret it.

I use a cold wax now, it smears right on out of the jar without having to heat it. It is water soluble (so you can easily wash off whatever you spill) and non-toxic because it’s made with all-natural ingredients. I can’t remember the brand but I think there are lots of kinds like it available (like this one).

Yes; please see the OP. I am very familiar with waxing myself. Booking an appointment at a salon isn’t an option this close to the date I leave; plus I don’t have a relationship with a salon. It is not something I make a habit of.

Thanks, I’ll look at it.

I know I am going to sound like a snarky bitch, but I realize I am, perhaps, not being clear enough. I have been teased for my leg hair since I was 7 years old. I have had body hair issues for almost 20 years. As a result, I am extremely well acquainted with various methods, tips, tricks, and techniques associated with hair removal. What I am looking for is a tried and trusted product that addresses my particular issues. I realize I could go on website reviews, but was wondering if maybe there was someone with similar problems who has found something that works.

Maybe I am asking for too much.

Doesn’t work well on the roofing shingles.
