I quintuple “Love Actually”–first thing that popped into my head. To be frank, I tend to despise romantic comedies for insulting my intelligence, but Love Actually is smart. I also adored “Return to Me” which is one of those films that will make you laugh and cry at once… phenomenal, phenomenal acting and very character driven. “Spanglish” is another fine movie… and the classics of course, like “When Harry Met Sally” cannot be beaten. I also noticed someone suggested the lesbian romantic comedy “Imagine Me and You.” I thought it was very well done, well-acted, and surprisingly realistic.
I feel the same way about Love, Actually - which has been recommended four times in this thread. That is the most depressing movie - nothing funny about it at all. Most of my girlfriends love it.

I continue to veto Bridget Jones because Renee Zellwegger pisses me off in general – and the idea that she gained 15 whole pounds to play a fat girl in this sends me ballistic. I veto Something’s Gotta Give because of unidentifiable prejudices.
There are two actors I loathe irrationally and refuse to watch under any circumstances – Billy Crystal and Minnie Driver – so a couple of things got knocked on that basis.
As mentioned above, Love, Actually was already on the list.
And if something else you recommended didn’t make the cut – it’s probably because I’ve already seen it.
