My sis and her fellah are getting married on Monday. They’ve asked me to sing a song at the wedding. It’s in a registry office. I’ve not got a clue what song to sing. Any recommendations/suggestions?
Always and Forever by Heatwave. Simple enough to do acapella
Always and Forever by Kip.
Either “The Wedding Song” by Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary), or “We’ve Only Just Begun” by the Carpenters.
Grow Old Along With Me is one of my favorites for such an occasion.
How about this one
SSG Schwartz
Tish Hinojosa’s **“Who Showed You the Way To My Heart?” **
Had my brother-in-law sing it at our wedding, and we’re coming up on 9 years next month.
Bicycle built for two.
It would be funny for the right couple.
(going to) the Chapel of Love but change the words to Registry Office.
How about Irving Berlin’s Always?
How about ‘Fight the good fight’?
You quickly stop yourself and restart with ‘Love divine, all loves excelling’, of course.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’ve gone with Rainy Night In Soho by the Pogues.
Until the Night by Billy Joel, at the very least, listen to it once.
So many excellent suggestions. I humbly suggest “The Stars are ours Tonight” by the Nylons. It is off the album “Seamless” The irrelavant parts can be left out. It is very adaptable to acapella. Good luck to you and the couple.
My girlfriend and I are in the same situation come October, and, since we need to practice, we’ve settled on “Love and Marriage”, a re-lyriced “Fly Me to the Moon”, and “Something Stupid”…we’re not exactly aiming for kitsch (though at a previous wedding we did a rewritten “Your Song”); I suppose it really depends on your tastes and theirs.
I second Tish Hinojosa’s Who Showed You the Way to my Heart and Irving Berlin’s Always. Another good one is Dolly Parton’s I Will Love You Longer than Always.
Dan Fogelberg’s song “Longer”
Longer than there’ve been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there’ve been stars up in the heaven,
I’ve been in love with you.
…
I’ll bring fire in the winter
You’ll send showers in the spring
We’ll fly through the falls and summers
with love on our wings
…
Sappy, I know, but I’ve always loved this one.
My band just played a wedding. Their first dance song was Norah Jones’ “Come Away with Me” The wedding we did a couple of months before that the song was “You’re My Everything”. Both have really sweet lyrics.
Just adding my $.02 even though you’ve already selected a song. Have fun!
This can easily be done a capella. It’s a sweet song, perfect for a wedding.
Ok, I hate links with no preview of where you’re going, sorry. It’s a song called Believe It Or Not by The Grateful Dead.
Ooo. I only know of that song because of the Boards. Nice choice.
