Recommend a steakhouse on the Las Vegas Strip

Well, after years of planning and dreaming and saving up money and then having to spend it on some urgent disaster instead or not having vacation time to spare, I’m finally going to Vegas this August, and I’m working on rounding out my itinerary. During my four-night stay, I’m taking a day trip by bus to the Grand Canyon Skywalk, I’ve got tickets to Penn & Teller, and I plan on going up to the top of the Stratosphere and riding the rides there, going on the world’s tallest Ferris wheel at the Linq, visiting the Pinball Hall of Fame, and I’ll probably also see the Bodies exhibition, the CSI attraction, and maybe (if my schedule permits) the jousting show at Excalibur.

While I’m there, I know for certain that I want to get a burger at the Heart Attack Grill, grab a shrimp cocktail from the Golden Gate, a sandwich at the Carnegie Deli, and breakfast at the Hash House A-Go-Go. One thing I also want to do while I’m there is get a real nice steak dinner. Of course, Vegas being Vegas, every casino on the Strip has its own steakhouse, and I have no way of knowing which ones are better than the others.

Any frequent Vegas visitors care to recommend a place that stands out? I’m bringing plenty of spending money with me, so I’m not worried about spending $100 on a steak, a side, and a drink if that’s what it’ll cost me to get the best available.

Excalibur has a decent steak house called Camelot. It’s a notch too upscale for most of Excalibur’s clientele so nobody’s ever in there. I’ve been very happy every time I’ve gone.

There are so many, you almost can’t go wrong. I’ve heard Craftsteak is absolutely phenomenal, though. I don’t think you could possibly go wrong with anything Tom Colicchio does.

Mon Ami Gabi has steak but not really a traditional steak house but good food, including steak. Plus if you sit outside you can people watch and watch the Bellagio fountains.

I go to Vegas every year with a friend for our mutual birthdays, and every year we do a steakhouse. Usually, we try a different one every year, but for the past two years, we’ve gone to Gordon Ramsey Steak at The Paris, because it’s that good. I was initially concerned about the whole ‘celebrity chef’ association, but it really is a fantastic restaurant.

The best steak dinner I’ve had in Vegas was at Gordon Ramsay Steak in the Paris.

Also, I’m not sure the Golden Gate still has the 99 cent shrimp cocktail. They renovated a few years ago and removed the casino floor dining area.

These are my #1 and #2 votes, respectively.

So I’ll offer #3: Cut, at The Palazzo. The bill won’t be small. But I had a their 8-oz filet mignon “American Wagyu.” And a side of soft polenta, with parmesan. And an 18-year Macallan, neat.

And I knew what people eat in Heaven.

If they’re good.

Note: We head over to Vegas at least 5 times a year.

First, don’t eat at HHAGG. Head over to Peppermill instead. Much better food, and still giant portions. Second, skip the show at Excalisuck and see Blue Man Group or Carrot Top instead. Third, there a plethora of good steak places on the Strip, limited only by your wallet. My personal favorites are SW Steak (Wynn), Cut (Palazzo), Craftsteak (MGM), and The Steak House (Circus Circus). Fourth, the Shrimp Cocktail at Golden Gate is now $1.99.

eta: Fifth, Bricker is mistaken. The cut to order at Cut is the Nebraska rib-eye. More flavor than the wagyu by far.

Oh my! Eazy Peazy! (from the Shawshank Redemption).

That would be Binion’s Horseshoe Casino. There is a hotel attached to the casino and it has a most delicious and delectable steak house on the top floor.

I asked a savvy Hotel Concierge (from the Golden Nugget) one time to recommend a good steak house to me and he didn’t think twice about it. He just blurted out “Binion’s Steak House” as if there was never any other choice.

I went there the last time I visited LV and I was so very happy that I chose to do that. The food was wonderful. The service was wonderful. The entire experience was nothing short of wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I recommend this steak house to you with my most supreme confidence.

I sat down at a table and never even looked at their menu. I just told them what I wanted. I told them I would like a Porterhouse steak - medium rare - with a side order of sauted mushrooms and French Fries. (I don’t like baked potatoes with a steak).

The Porterhouse is generally the largest steak you can get and most wait staff think there must be something wrong with you if you order a steak cooked any other way except rare or medum-rare.

That is because it is generally accepted that the most flavorful way to cook a steak is rare or medium-rare.

The sauted mushrooms were most delicious.

Oh! I said earlier that I never looked at their menu. What I meant by that was that it is a sign of an excellent restaurant that you can order what you like and they will prepare that for you. It’s called ordering off the menu.

Anyway, the bill was something like $40 and I gave them a $20 tip. It was worth it. For sure, it was.

If I ever go back to LV, I will be certain to return to that same hotel and have that same dinner again. It was like having a little slice of Heaven. Oh Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!

Once you find perfection, why mess with it? It was just the best of the best. Oh, Yum! Yum! Yum!

Binion’s isn’t on the Strip, it’s downtown. It isn’t all that great, either. Adequate, but hardly stellar compared to the other options available.

Oops! I’m sorry. You are correct about Binions being downtown.

I’m sorry that you didn’t like it as much as I did.

I hope you find a steakhouse that makes you happy. Good luck to you, mate!

I think my absolute favorite Strip steakhouse is SW Steak, but I’m willing to try them all, for the sake of Science.

I don’t blame you one single bit.

AAMOF, if you are ever interested in pursuing some science and we are both in Vegas at the same time, I would be most happy to join you and chomp on down on a big juicy steak!

Another vote for binions. Last time i went, i got the bone in prime rib, the smaller slice. It was like as big as my hand and two inches thick, maybe 3-5 pounds. I said, oh my god thats the small? Waiter said, yrah thats the ladies cut.

I would third Craftsteak- it’s pricey, but the steak is awesome (and so is the cinnamon monkey bread for dessert). If you can fit in a Cirque de Soleil show (and you should) KA is great, as are Love (if you like the Beatles) and O.

Fix at Bellagio is really good, and the cocktails are top notch.

Are you going to have any sushi while you’re in town?

I hadn’t planned on it, but I wouldn’t rule it out. This will be my first trip to Vegas and I’m trying to do as much stereotypical tourist stuff as I can.

As to silenus; I have to eat at HHAGG at least once, otherwise I won’t be able to say that I did. I’ll keep the recommendation in mind, though. Carrot Top and BMG aren’t quite my cup of tea, but I’m still considering going to at least one more marquee show aside from Penn & Teller.

I’m going to have to start perusing these places’ menus once I get home from work - I don’t want to go broke on one meal, but I’m OK with spending in the $100 range for a good steak, a baked potato, and some lobster bisque.

I third (or fourth or fifth) craftsteak. It’s a bit pricey, but I’m a fan of doing his tasting menu, although it goes by some other name. It’s family style, and has a party minimum of two, so you and your dinner partner(s) can share without looking out of place.

Other options that I’ve found to be not too terrible.

StripSteak - Insane single malt selection that is so detailed, it requires an iPad.
Prime - The service was so stellar that I didn’t mind the great, but not superb steak.

The CSI exhibit is vastly overrated IMO.

I was a huge fan of the show and was excited to play the CSI game, which ends up being just a station-by-station explanation of how things are done, and a spot you can do it that really requires no mental ability, it’s basically given to you.

Then you eventually make your way to the end where they give you the answer.

It’s worth saying that I did all of this practically 5 years ago, but I can’t imagine they changed it much

If I go back, I will try the ribeye.
