Recommend me a painting subject

First, read this thread. It’s not long, I promise.

So anyway, I have two weeks to come up with a gift for Heather. Last year, I made some jewelry for her. This year, I’m thinking of giving her two gifts. More jewelry, this time including pearls (I found an inexpensive but very nice strand while on Summer vacation) and a painting.

I just don’t know what the painting should be, so I need some ideas from you guys.

The thing is, I don’t really know much about Heather. The sum total of what I know is:

She’s a babe.
She’s in her late 30s.
She’s from Maine.
She’s engaged.
She doesn’t like spicy or “weird” foods (like cabbage, for instance).

The only ideas I’ve had so far are a) a flower in a vase, or b) the Maine coast. Both subjects I’ve never tried before.

I so wish I could paint. I can draw great, but when I get the oil paints out there’s a 75% or better chance that the end result will look like “coloring” and not “painting”.

How about a landscape with animals?

Did you just read this thread ?

I came in to say “Naked people of course!” but no… No that wouldn’t be good.

The flower in a vase sounds fun, you could try for an impressionist Japanese style thing. You should look at some (color) sumi-e. You can do one quick (though it might take several failed paintings) and will come out looking hip enough you could put it in just about anybody’s house.

sea shells would probably be a winner.

Woman with banana.

How about something abstract and decorative?

I would go with something ‘Maine’ related. I have a couple friends from Maine , and every ‘Maine-iac’ I have EVER met is almost obsessive about their state. A nice coast line , toss in a light house… I’m sure she will love it !

Not until you pointed it out. But although I’ve only been an artist since May, I’ve been a musician since 1973. Hasn’t seemed to help.

Last night I tried a first pass at painting Nubble Light, but at sunset. I’m not happy with it.
